In the Forum, Charger WA commented that they have won at least four games this year on the stats and lost it on the scoreboard. It is pertinent to ask why? Other forum commenters pointed out that this had been a Foley tradition from when he first was head coach at the Waratahs.
Watching them it is clear that it is not just bad luck. The fundamental issue is that they are playing a game plan that is trying to restrict the losses and mistakes. So their main attack is kicking in their own half and in the attacking half its one or two out running without risking anything that might break open the defence. Multiple recycling won’t, on its own, open up opposing defences. With a defence as good as the Stormers it was bound to fail. This week if they kick to the Chiefs back three as they did last week they’ll get murdered.
