The Queensland Reds have jetted off to the UK, aiming to fine tune their game ahead of the Super Rugby Pacific season. The 34-man squad is set to face Bristol on 3 January and Ulster on 7 February, providing a stern test against quality opposition.
Young backrower John Bryant, who previously played at Bristol’s Ashton Gate with the Australia XV, is eager for the challenge. “Ashton Gate is an unreal stadium in terms of atmosphere,” Bryant remarked. “The UK teams always throw big bodies at you, and I know, first hand, that Bristol can run at you from anywhere.”
These matches are designed to build resilience and adaptability within the squad, ensuring they’re battle-ready for the season opener against Moana Pasifika, featuring new recruit Ardie Savea, on 21 February at Suncorp Stadium.
The tour also offers a valuable opportunity for the Reds’ younger players to gain international experience and exposure to different styles of play, which will be crucial as they navigate the challenges of the upcoming SRP season.
