4. Brisbane Boys College – 120.376
After the disaster that was the 2012 season, where BBC suffered major injuries to pretty much every key player in the squad, and were forced to expel a year 11 Australian Schoolboy representative star, the strong start to the 2013 season is being met with great optimism by the Green White Black fans on Miskin St . The potential was there in 2012, but the injury toll prevented it from being realised.
This is not the case in 2013. With a whole lot of new faces, BBC was facing its best chance at a premiership since it last won in 1954. That is, until it was bumped off by up-starts Gregory Terrace in Round 5. With 2 losses on the year, BBC really only have a mathematical chance at taking back the trophy. Every game is now a must win for BBC, and they will be praying for Nudgee to trip over their own feet.
Statistically, their Power Ranking is a good indicator of the true strength of this BBC outfit. A very solid 0.535 SOS rating has inflated their rank, and 2 wins out of the last 3 wins is not detracting from their score. However, their season win margin is only 3.8, showing that there isn’t the degree of dominance present in this side that a premiership contender would really be hoping for at the midpoint of the season. I believe this is more a reflector on the quality of the competition though, as referenced by the stunning number of upsets so far this season in all games.
I believe that BBC is roughly about the level the Indiana Pacers were at in 2012; without a doubt a solid side, very capable of playing finals basketball, but just weren’t quite there to win it all. Plenty of talent in the team, and I believe BBC will be moving up this list in the next few weeks as they get stuck in to their “finals” run.
