Every now and again we here at Green & Gold Rugby come across some ‘inside information’ through our various networks. Like any rumour, you can take it with as many grains of salt as to your taste.
First off, there are murmurs of discontent with Robbie’s decision to make Rocky Elsom the captain. Whilst there’s no doubt his team mates respect him as a player, a few might also believe that Rocky is too much of an individual to lead the team at this time. There’s a push at Camp Wallaby for young stars David Pocock and Will Genia to start the generational shift in the Wallabies and form the new leadership team.
Speaking of Robbie, and leadership, expect to see some significant changes come the Spring tour to the Northern Hemisphere. With the addition of even more mid-week games to the schedule (Munster and Leicester) the ARU are reportedly set to take the extraordinary step of appointing a 2nd Wallaby coach to look after the mid-week team. Can you guess who it might be? We’ve heard it WON’T be David Nucifora. We wonder if this person is a possibility to replace Robbie after next year’s RWC, or even before it?
News straight from the flight from Christchurch is that no-one’s more busted out of shape about losing than Matt Giteau. No doubting his passion, but we also hear that it was only Quade’s suspension for a dangerous tackle that kept him in the team for the last two weeks. Now that Quade is available again, let’s see if Gits has changed the selectors’ minds with his last couple of tests?
Finally, some good news, if it’s true. Watch out for a dedicated 24 hour rugby channel during the RWC next year.
