CCC 24 — GPS White 17
First half
12 Boardman scored for CCC after a loose kick was picked up then GPS LHP Bodwitch responded with two bruising tries for GPS.
None of the tries were converted and 13 minutes in the score was Bodwitch 10 – CCC 5.
CCC scored next after a break down the left through a run by 12 Chapman. 15 Anthony nearly made it over but Chapman got his reward backing up.
Then the outstanding CCC 9 Pye had a 70-metre run fending off some ordinary tackles and he scored. Finally somebody slotted a conversion as Anthony made the tally 17-10 for CCC at oranges.
It was an even game punctuated by good individual efforts, but CCC had better teamwork and looked more organised.
Second half
One of the team tries of the day was started in the CCC 22 by ranga 6 Wilkinson, who made several bullocking runs in the match. After several quick breakdowns and pop-up passes 5. Kiutau was over the line. Score CCC 24 – Bodwitch 10.
But big Jack Bodwitch could not be denied: after several bashing GPS attempts Bodwitch got his third meat pie. Converted but CCC still ahead: 24 -17.
GPS White were in the CCC 22 at the end of the game but Bodwitch could not get a fourth. Final score: CCC 24 – GPS White 17.
CCC’s better combined play carried their boys through but both teams played some good attacking rugby.
