Brumbies lose to their own shadow
From Lion slayers to victims of the Western Force, oh how the mighty have fallen. The battle between the Western Force and the Brumbies was really only ever supposed to go in one direction. It was billed to all as a match between two very similar teams but with one sitting just a class above the other. What we got was a bit of an implosion on behalf of the Brumbies.
It seemed that very little went right for them on the evening, most notably their defence and ball security. Missing 24 of 99 tackles would be an absolutely damning figure for any Super Rugby franchise, much less one that uses defensive pressure as a tenet of their strategy. The 22 turnovers they conceded were just another leaky porthole in the sinking ship that was the HMAS Canberra. Even the Western Force will start scoring if you give them that much ball and then miss one in four of your tackles.
