Well, well, well… Quite a start to the fantasy season we have on our hands here! I personally copped a hiding (thanks Ma’a) but nonetheless there was some success around the league. Our very own Moses shot out of a cannon to finish 2nd overall with a blazing 457 points. Might have thought he’d fallen just short of the weekly $1,000 prize? Not so fast. On a tremendous stroke of luck, the winner was deemed ineligible to collect (non-Aussie) and Moses ran off into the night with the loot. Congrats mate, don’t spend it all in one place.
Our fine league is also in the top spot for manager average, which is keeping the tradition of last year alive. By the way, we’re by far the biggest league I’ve seen listed at 252 members and growing still. The more the merrier we say. The Top 10 standings for the 1st week are below.
Another big topic this week is the tragedy in Christchurch. You’ve probably seen that the Crusader’s match with the Hurricanes has been canceled, and it goes without saying that our silly fantasy game is of little consequence when it comes to something like that. But be prepared to be with out those players, along with the Force players that are on their scheduled bye. Some fellow-leaguers have considered using their Wild Card because they have so many inactive players this week. Pretty early in the season to use it, but if you have no choice….
Some Observations
- Jeez that Rebels defense looked slow and porous. Start their opponents until otherwise is proven.
- The Bulls wingers had 1 run between them all game. Just so happened to be a breaker with several missed tackles that resulted in a try for van der Heever (30 points). Are they going to play a more conservative game?
- Nonu is still an idiot.
- Stormers are back this week and playing the Lions (could be good for some points there)
- The Blues upcoming schedule: Sharks, Lions, Force, ‘Canes, Chiefs, and Cheetahs. Many of those are on the road, but you’d think they can win quite a few of those match ups and that they might do some good things with the pill in the process.
- Careful picking Chiefs in your team. “Flip of a Coin” Foster has benched a bunch of last week’s starters and it appears he may be heavy on rotation this year.
