In the second half of last week’s game both teams made some fundamental kicking errors.
Even ignoring the goal kicking woes of both teams (with the notable exception of James O’Connor) the kicking performance under the pressure of a close game was poor. There were instances of not kicking the ball out from within your own 22, kicking the ball straight to the opposition player who was under no pressure, kicking the ball dead and wasting a golden opportunity to score with an ill conceived grubber kick on the try line. The video below includes those lowlights.
The Kiwis are blaming Stephen Donald for the loss based on his missed penalty goal and his failure to put the ball out in that final minute. If the Wallabies had lost we would have been fingering Matt Giteau for his missed penalty and Quade Cooper for his kicking mistakes. What a difference it makes when your team comes out on top of a close game!
Let’s hope we see a more composed performance from the Wallabies this week it it gets tight.
