Jeez I liked the look of Higginbotham on the weekend. Where’s this guy been? Hope it continues!

Higgs plays for Wests in the Brisbane club comp (as does Madness and Tasi Laufutu) and was part of the Aust 7’s team for a few years. Has been with the Reds academy for a few years also and was only this year upgraded to a full contract.

I’ve seen a fair bit of him over the years and can honestly say I’ve never seen a performance like it. He generally doesn’t roll the sleves up so it will be interesting to see if this was a one off or the start of something beautiful.

      Report
      • El Dommo on February 24, 2009 12:46 am

Lets say at Wests, he, umm, plays a different style due to coaching strategy. H ehas also bulked up a bit more this year from about 104/105 he was at the start of last year to 112 now.

        Report
    • Newb on February 23, 2009 11:14 pm

i have to say i’m a little weary of him. i hope he can keep it up, but i wonder if he’s really the goods. a backrower that has 6 tackles and 4 missed tackles in two full games? sounds more like a scrummie…

      Report
      • Bobas on February 24, 2009 12:46 am

I’ve never seen a scrum half get two line breaks in one game.
Unless you consider matt giteau a scrum half.

it kills me to give credit to a saffa, but kockott has 4 so far this season =)

i’ll stop being an arse to agree with you that he does have promising ball in hand potential. i was more pointing out the lack of defensive activity, which is the worry for me.

    Report
  6. El Dommo on February 24, 2009 12:49 am

SMH, only 2 Tahs. Wow. No Surprise that one of them is Palu (i still maintain SMH reports are why he is the Wallaby 8 ahead of Hoiles or Brown),
    But Caldwell (thats from nowhere)
    and Baxter….Fusing it up…

Do they get paid with monopoly money at the SMH?

    Report
    • Gagger on February 24, 2009 11:48 am

Harsh on Palu I reckon Dommo. May not have the distribution skills of those two, but consistently makes the hardest and mostest yards, which for me a key No 8 ability.

On the end of year tour Brown got caught wanting in that department on a few occassions.

      Report
      • Patrick on February 24, 2009 8:44 pm

Agreed I am not Waratah crazy but for mine Palu is our best No 8. Maybe once we have a firing Horwill/Mumm we will get more out out of a Hoiles/Brown but for now we need Palu.

        Report
    • Juan Cote on February 25, 2009 11:43 am

Agreed Dommo, Palu is a one-trick pony.

Funny thing is, he has found his niche with the Tahs who only have one trick themselves.
