The Scots College, Sydney is hosting a schoolboys Rugby 7s tournament and family fun day this Saturday 26 March.
It’s an all-day event that promises to be a great day out for 7s rugby enthusiasts and families alike.
A host of off-field activities will keep the little ones and non-rugby nuts (if there is such a thing) entertained for hours.
On the field, schools from all over Australia and New Zealand will compete for the Under 18 “Pillinger Cup” and the Under 12 “Pillinger Shield”.
This year’s opens team list includes traditional Kiwi rugby powerhouses Kings College, Auckland and Palmerston North Boys High, as well as the Lloyd McDermott Development team featuring some of the best indigenous players in Australia.
Scots have been hosting a schoolboy rugby 7s tournament for five years now, but this is the first time it’s been played over Easter.
According to Brian Smith, Director of Rugby at Scots, “tournaments like this create a platform for young aspiring rugby players to work towards an Olympic goal, now that 7s is an Olympic sport.”
“And for the fans, it’s a great opportunity to watch future stars play in what should be loads of thrilling matches”.
Girl’s schools, Kambala and SCEGGS, will play an under 18 Touch Football match and the Aussie Mens and Womens 7s team will be conducting coaching clinics.
The Scots Pipes and Drums Band and the ‘Sydney Altitude’ cheerleaders are performing. Sydney Altitude provide the official cheer programs for both the Sydney 6ers Big Bash Team and the Wests Tigers NRL Team.
There will be BBQs, ice cream vans and coffee carts…and for the younger children there is face painting and a bouncy castle.
The rugby games start at 10am and the finals are on at 4pm.
It’s a free event and a great day out for the whole family.
