In the lead up to the premier of the movie Invictus in Australia, our friends from Village Roadshow gave us a whole heap of double passes to give away to our readers. We opted for the option of getting you to cast your own Wallaby movie. Some of the entries were, frankly, pretty average with absolutely no effort made other than an e-mail. But some were crackers. For mine there were two stand outs, but I will get to those later.
Firstly, a few observations from our entries.
- Approximately 90% of our entries were women. We here at G&GR don’t know what to make of this. We didn’t know we had that many females reading the site! We can’t quite work what was the driving force behind the high female count, but have put it down as the “Matt Factor” – a combination of two killer Matts, Damon and Gagger.
- Chicks dig Campo. David Campese was a popular source of casting and the actors suggested to play him were all, what’s the correct terminology, spunks? So let’s start there. A quick look at who people chose to play one of our greatest Wallabies ever.
Here they are. The Campo wannabes:
How’s that? Alex Dimitriades, Jude Law and Brad Pitt. I guess Dimitriades has that bit of Italian in him. Law? Have you seen his hairline lately? Very Campo-esque. As for Pitt? Clearly not from his Fight Club work, Campo was much more a lover than a fighter. Perhaps it was from the Benjamin Button role?
A few other random ones I liked, or at least thought were interesting, were:
Michelle from Woolooware suggested this two, which are great.
Billy Crystal as Michael Foley
Ben Kingsley as George Gregan
Amanda from Cranebook also had an interesting take, obviously looking forward to 2011 for her movie.
Adam Sandler as Ben Alexander
Ryan Kwanten (Home and Away apparently) as Matt Giteau
But the two stand outs for mine were Kirsten from Newport and Nicole from Charlestown.
Firstly to Kirsten’s entry. Kirsten is another who has opted to set her movie in the future. In a time where the Wallabies win the Bledisloe Cup and people actually give a damn about them. Starring in this blockbuster will be:
<< Michael C.Hall from Dexter as David Pocock (biceps to be CGI-ed in later)
Lincoln Lewis (the King’s son) as James O’Connor >>
<< Toby Stephens (Graves in Die Another Day) as Ryan Cross
Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser MD) as Matt Giteau >>
And now to Nicole, who is pitching the movie “Undefeated” about the inspiring story of the Wallabies 1999 World Cup campaign starring:
<< Taye Diggs as George Gregan.
Eric Bana as John Eales >>
<< Matt LeBlanc as Matthew Burke
Timothy Olyphant as Steve Larkham >>
<< Russell Crowe (as his character from The Insider) as Rod MacQueen
Thanks to EVERYONE who entered the competition. Your double passes to Invictus will be mailed out today (I hope). Enjoy and make sure you come back and let us know what you thought of the movie. Thanks again to Village Roadshow, you can check them out at their facebook page. All winners will be contact by e-mail today.
As to the rest of you, what do you think? Which movie would you be camping over night to get tickets to?
