Here it is, the G&GR Best Aussie Club Try for 2010, as judged by the top coach in Australia – Robbie Deans.
This piece of top drawer rugby came from the royalty of Perth rugby; Nedlands rugby club and caps off a characteristically triumphal year that saw them sweep the top three grades of the Perth competition. Fittingly the scorer was the first team captain – Joe “Peanut” Ritchie.
The club wins a further $1000 of Skins gear, as well as more KooGa swag and a training session in 2011 with the Wallaby coaches.
Speaking of which, here’s what Dingo himself thought of the winning try;
Great Team Try.
Handled by most, some excellent continuity skills displayed including accurate cleanout.
Good work off the ball to position effectively, enabling good running lines that made the defence accountable.
Many good decisions made around whether to transfer a pass and possible pressure or carry into contact.
Earn’t the right to play by going forward first before using the width.
Patience and trust displayed but not at the expense of spontaneity.
Regards
Robbie Deans
Thanks to the ARU, Skins and KooGa for their support, and to Austin and Moses for all of the work!
Have a look for yourself at the try, and congrats to Nedlands Rugby Club!
