I’ve had a few weeks off, but am now ready to get back into it with the Lions now on our shores. But first…
5. The art of the rugby video
The internet age has done many things for our game, both positive and negative (just ask our old mate Cooper Vuna). One of the more recent developments is the rise of the rugby compilation video. Obviously that has been around a while for the international game (remember my rugby ad at the start of 2011? Brings back some good memories – I loved it when we used to score tries…) but now it is beginning to permeate the lower layers of the game, including club, suburban and even schoolboy rugby.
And these aren’t hackneyed attempts that look like something you’d find in the reject bin at Funniest Home Videos. Professional editing software is now cheap and accessible, and every phone is now equipped with a high quality video camera. Have a look at this video that my old school, Shore, made last week to fire up the school before their fixture against Joeys:
Pretty good, hey?
Now here is one my humble Suburban rugby club made at the start of this season:
It just shows the quality of rugby doesn’t have to be too high to make a good video!
What you do need is fast cuts, a good track and a few big hits. It’s not rocket science, and every club should look to making one themselves – we at G&GR well know that writing articles and taking photos are all well and good, but there is something about a video that instantly gets people interested and engaged.
So I want you to share the best grassroots videos with me. Have you made one at your club or school? Post it in the comments section and next week I will give a plug to the best ones.
