This year’s Super Rugby Tipping competition will be closer than ever and Round 2 was proof of that. Of the 233 participants in the Green and Gold Rugby Tipping Competition, not one was able to crack that perfect round. Round 3 won’t be much easier, but read on and you might stand half a chance.
Last Week.
The GaGR Super Rugby Tipping League is hotly contested with 5 people topping the weekly scoring with 7 points. Please Entertain Us, Tboy, Drew and Greggsy all did well but the tipper of the week goes to ‘RNGD Barking Ghecko’ who is currently in first place in the GaGR League and tied for the overall lead. I don’t think it’s too early to try and get a bit chummy with Barking Ghecko if you’re keen for a spot in the Corporate Box.
The Broken Nose Game.
Looking ahead to Round 3 the hardest game to pick will be without a doubt on Saturday night when the Waratahs host the Reds. Recent history tells us that the Reds have had the wood over the Tahs, winning the last 5 on the trot. Both teams have opened their 2014 campaigns with good wins but both leaving plenty of room for improvement.
The tipping on this game is slightly favouring the Tahs at the moment but there is absolutely nothing in it apart from perhaps the home ground advantage for the men in Blue. Flip a coin, pull a name out of a hat or ask your mum which jersey she thinks is the prettiest. However you decide, if you tip this game correctly, it was all luck. It’s that close.
The other tough tip will be in the match up between the Rebels and the Cheetahs. The boys from Bloemfontein have had a mixed run in the first two rounds and haven’t yet found their form from last year. The Rebels on the other hand have had a very solid preseason with 3 from 3 in the trials but as yet no proper Super Rugby fixtures. The Rebels have yet to beat the Cheetahs but two of their three games have been played in South Africa and the lads tend to grow another leg when playing at the Stockade. I think this may be a big year for the Rebels and many punters agree with me with the tipping favouring the home side.
The Joker.
No I’m not talking about Brokendown, the tipper who only managed 1 from 7 on the weekend; I am of course referring to ‘the sure thing’ this week. My lock.
Looking at the tipping stats for the week, I wouldn’t mind betting that most will be playing their Joker on the Chiefs to beat the Highlanders. With almost a full starting side already injured for the Chiefs though, they should still get the win but it’s probably not going to be as sure a thing as it seems on paper.
The Stormers are also heavily backed to beat the Hurricanes but the lock for the week is the Brumbies to roll the Force in Perth. The Brumbies will be angry, very angry, after losing a game that was there to win against the Reds last week. The Force will try hard but will inevitably come up short against a determined outfit from Canberra. Lock it in and put your house on it.
