So…. what’s different this week? Well, not very much. Our league average is still leading the way, with a decent margin to the next competition. A bit of shuffling of the top 10, but Steve Hawkins still holds the lead on next closest by over 130 points, which is beginning to look a bit unreachable. And the man still has the overall FoxSports lead. Like I said, not much has changed.
This was a bit of a down week for scores. No crazy 500 point teams for our league, not even 400. Ishmael topped us all with 380 points for his Ma’a’s Mascara Men, which is a great team name by the way. Nothing says “I’m a real man, bro” like a little eyeliner. Except for maybe rainbow colored dreads. Think he does a touch up at the half? Anyways, on to the stuff that matters….
Blinders
- Bismarck du Plessis, Sharks – The big hooker had a great game, scoring a try, winning a tighthead, and otherwise being handy around the park. Hopefully this puts an end to the stupidity that is playing Smit at hooker while one of the best in the world sits on the bench. First game over 30 points for BdP this year.
- Rene Ranger, Blues – For anyone that saw him against the Brumbies, his appearance on this list is not a surprise. He was involved in everything it seemed and showed his punishing style regularly. The man can be unstoppable with ball in hand, but has shown a deft touch recently in using his power to set up his teammates.
- Jacque Fourie, Stormers – Still magic with the ball, but goes missing on defense too much. Doesn’t seem to hurt the stormers much as they’re off to a great start.
Flops
- Michael Paterson, ‘Canes – How hit or miss is this guy? He’s either 20 points plus or close to zero. Well his 1 point total this week was one of the low returns, which is a bit surprising as I thought I read he was named MOTM for the ‘Canes. Scoring off maybe?
- Bench-warming Scrummies – A duel mention for Rory Kockott and Piri Weepu. Both have had their starting roles revoked for the better of the team, whatever that means… which frankly is a disaster for fantasy owners, as these two are usually among the best. So far life off the bench has not been kind to either.
We’re doing a shortened coverage this week to bring in a new feature that was born in the forum. Started as a joke, but he’s your Wallabies Squad selected by fantasy points!
This ignores any time lost because of injuries or bye weeks, so there is maybe some unevenness built in. But we’ll revisit this occasionally and the idea is that by the end of the Super 14 season all the kinks will work themselves out. So what do you think of the team? If we did it this way, a robot could select the squad. Oh wait, we already have that…
