Nudgee College will house the GPS 1st XV silverware for another year after holding out The Southport School for a 34-29 win on Ross Oval. In what was only the third ever rugby ‘Grand Final’ in the 100-year history of GPS, Southport fought back from a 24-point half time deficit only to see Nudgee flyer Jangala Bennet steal victory with a late touchdown. Sunshine Coast have done one better this year to clinch the U18 Queensland State Championships over Metropolitan West in Toowoomba over the weekend. The Queensland State Championships is a four day event that combines ten regional teams from throughout Queensland. Each region grabs the best schoolboy talents from their respective areas minus anyone that is currently playing either AIC or GPS First XV. This rule evens up the tournament, putting metropolitan regions on relative par its country counterparts.
