With today’s news that the Brumbies have called for Steve Walsh’s head, here is our highlights package from Saturday’s derby against the Waratahs.
Personally I feel the Brumbies should take a good look at the way their captain Stephen Hoiles is antagonising Walsh. I wonder if these two have a history, as Walsh did not tolerate the lack of respect shown by Hoiles from the outset. Contrast this with the manner in which Phil Waugh engaged with Walsh, when Phil was caught with his hands in the ruck Walsh and Phil would laugh about it!
We’ve thrown in a few other highlights as well, for me the biggest hit in the match was Fitzpatrick (16) man-handling Matt Giteau in the leadup to Kurtley’s almost try. The speed that Adam Ashley-Cooper showed in foiling that move was astounding.
Then there is Adam Ashley-Cooper’s “try”. As it happens, this topic was forseen by fatprop in our forums a few weeks ago, with the consensus being a crackdown was needed for players crawling after being tackled. As the tackler now has to release the tackled player before contesting the ball, why is the tackled player allowed to crawl along the ground when released?
Lastly, we finish up with “bloodgate”. Adam Freier is clearly exhausted, just returning from a long layoff, so removes his bandage to try and find some blood on his head. This however didn’t affect the game as Fitzpatrick played out the remainder of the match.
