Every week we have been shining a spotlight on one particular player, putting together stats and video to show their contribution to the game. We have done Pat McCabe, Ben Alexander, James Horwill, and this week we are looking at Rocky Elsom.
Rocky copped a fair bit of flack for his performance in NZ, and rightfully so. His carries were inneffective and he missed a lot of tackles. So did he turn it around against the Boks?
I think he did. It was by no means a MoTM effort but it was a good performance in a hard-fought win. He is clearly getting some form back at the right time, and his confidence visibly rose as the game went on in SA. According to the stats Rocky had:
– 7 runs for 77m gained
– 6 tackles (3 dominant) and 2 missed
– 1 linebreak
– 1 lineout steal
I will put up more in-depth stats when Austin releases his more reliable numbers. But as we know the stats don’t always tell the full story, so below is a video showing every major contribution Rocky made to the game:

What do you think? Did he do enough to silence the critics?
