Brumbies announce major sponsor

The Brumbies have today announced the University of Canberra as naming rights sponsor for the 2012 season.

'I'm a model, you know what I mean..'

In what is believed to be an Australian first, the Brumbies have teamed up with the institution and will have the University’s logo adorning their jersey throughout 2012.

The naming of the major sponsor for 2012 comes at a critical time for the club after the planned sponsorship agreement with Chinese technology provider Huawei collapsed just days before Christmas.

Brumbies CEO Andrew Fagan was delighted this new deal could be announced in such a short time frame since the bad news was delivered, with the 2012 season kick off just around the corner.

Today’s announcement was attended by Fagan and University of Canberra Vice-Chancellor Stephen Parker and both were optimistic this partnership will deliver favourable outcomes to both sides, although both parties were very tight lipped on the financial terms of the arrangement.

Vice-Chancellor Parker says that the University of Canberra is a sporting University that offers numerous courses in the sports environment and sees this being beneficial to the Brumbies. Both students and academics could have the opportunity to be working closely with the Brumbies over the season with scholarships and internships to be offered as part of the agreement.

The naming rights agreement is only for the 2012 season at this stage however there is a chance of a long term arrangement pending further negotiations between the two parties with Fagan revealing there have been discussions on a number of topics.

The ongoing partnership could ultimately see the University become the base for the Brumbies with its close proximity to Canberra Stadium and the Australian Institute of Sport an obvious advantage for the team.
