The Safeguard Global ACT Brumbies are gearing up for their first match of 2025, facing off against the New South Wales Waratahs in Bowral this Saturday at 3pm. This game marks a significant moment as head coach Stephen Larkham evaluates his 32-man squad in preparation for the upcoming Super Rugby Pacific season.
Among the squad, six new players will don the Brumbies jersey for the first time. Notable new signings Feao Fotuaika, Tuaina Taii-Tualima, and David Feliuai are set to start, bringing fresh energy to the team. Returning from a tour in England with Australia A, players like Lachlan Lonergan and Corey Toole are also included, alongside Billy Pollard and Tom Hooper, who recently participated in the Wallabies Spring Tour. A special highlight could be Tom Hooper playing alongside his brother Lachlan for the first time at a professional level.
Coach Larkham is eager to see how his team performs against their long-time rivals, the Waratahs. “We’re excited for this weekend’s match,” Larkham stated. “The pre-season has been tough, but the team has worked hard. Facing the Waratahs, especially in their final match before the season, will be a strong test for us. Even though it’s a trial, we’re treating it as a crucial game.”
Following this match, the Brumbies will have one more trial against the Western Force next Friday before heading to Suva for their first Super Rugby Pacific game against the Fijian Drua on February 15th.
The starting lineup for the Brumbies includes:
