Waratahs v Highlanders - Super Rugby round 3

Based on their last performance the Highlanders are going to be a very tough opponent at home. Gotta love this team. Not many huge names but they look well drilled and well coached.

I was really impressed with the Highlanders new half Smith. Gee NZ has a number of very good inside backs...add to the list Kerr-Barlow, Sopoanga, Barrett, Bleyendaal...sheesh! Even though he has been around a couple of seasons I will also put up Robbie Robinson as one who might come into his...

Wasn't trying to be a smartarse, I promise!:D To digress just a little further (another LG trait), 2005 onwards has been a golden period for Qld schoolboy rugby, with the likes of Pocock, Cooper, Genia, Simmons, Quirk, Shipperley and Davies to name just a few who were running around. 2007 was...

    Waratahs vs Reds - Round 1 - 2012R01

I'm not a Tom Carter basher but his actions and words in the 80th minute weren't sledging. That was plain bad sportsmanship which turned around to bite him on the arse. I'm with Wamberal. Not a fan of sledging even though some of it, particularly in cricket, is clever and humorous. I'm...

I'm going to do a bit of a Lee Grant here. Lance was at 10 and taps at 12, the younger Stapleton was at 13. And I think the younger Morahan was at fullback with Luke on the wing. Simmons was 2006. That 2007 TSS team was something else with nine of them making one or other of the two OZ schoolboy...

    Reds V Force Round 2 2012R02

By my calculations there are actually only 22 fit players from a squad of 31 at the moment (including a hooker with a niggle on the bench). So I think all available players are in the match day squad. Wise move to rest those with niggles, given there is a South African tour in a couple of weeks.

Who did the Reds want at first, him or Ant? I agree to an extent with Liquor Box, his work close to the ruck, particularly in defence is very effective. The one thing with Saia for me, is that he has never looked as fit as his colleagues, and that might influence workrate.

A couple of those ACT names don't look the easiest either!

Good article about Angus Cotrell in the Courier Mail today. Grandad was a Wallaby hooker and captain, and Dad played half for Qld inside Paul Maclean in the late 70's. Now that's impressive pedigree!

That Kingston looks like he'll be a good player. Liked what little I saw of him last weekend.

    Brumbies 2012

Mogg played a fair bit of fullback for Norths in Brisbane Premiers a couple of years back. Whilst Super Rugby is a big step up, he does have positional familiarity and posesses a good boot and a fair turn of pace. Wouldn't be a bad choice there. A backline I wouldn't mind seeing for the Ponies...

Yeah, Wade is a former flanker. He did play at 2 until he was subbed late in the second half. Looked solid from what I saw of him on Sunday but didn't see enought to make too much of a comment. The sub was last years Aus schools hooker, Ngaumo I think?

I'm hopeful that Anae will surprise a few if he gets the starting gig. He is a big unit (nearly 120kg) and very mobile to go with it. Albert has been a "prop to hooker" project for the last year or two, so lineout throwing may be the biggest challenge, but I hear that has improved significantly.

I prefer last year's method of rating all Australian sides. Brumbies 3. Mowen 2. Vaea 1. Mogg Force 3. Mafi 2. Stannard 1. Hodgson

    Waratahs vs Reds - Round 1 - 2012R01

Horne will come good, he just hasn't played in a while He showed his toughness when Digby put a big hit on him and came out looking the more damaged. A lot of the criticism of the outside backs on both sides is a bit harsh. There wasn't a lot of quality ball served up ffrom the inside. BKH in...

Spikhaza's explanation notwithstanding, can a Mod get rid of the poll at the top of this page? Hard to have a decent discussion about the game with such a frivolous (and I know, in jest) poll topic headlining the page.
