Interestingly Taps and Jono player in the midfield together in the TSS championship team in 2007. Their coach was Matt Taylor. Their fullback was Luke Morahan. In their forward pack was James Slipper and Rob Simmons.
I'm going to do a bit of a Lee Grant here. Lance was at 10 and taps at 12, the younger Stapleton was at 13. And I think the younger Morahan was at fullback with Luke on the wing. Simmons was 2006. That 2007 TSS team was something else with nine of them making one or other of the two OZ schoolboy sides.

Lance went on to captain Australia A and played at 12 and Morahan was a winger in the same side.

Bastard, haha... I knew he was at 10 so used the vague "midfield" because it sounded better. I have it on good authority that they have played as a centre pairing while at TSS though it was 12. Taps, 13. Lance.

Well spotted though.

By my calculations there are actually only 22 fit players from a squad of 31 at the moment (including a hooker with a niggle on the bench). So I think all available players are in the match day squad. Wise move to rest those with niggles, given there is a South African tour in a couple of weeks.
I think they also had a couple of injuries from the QLD A v Tonga game last night....including Chris Feauai-Sautia.
Anyone know how serious?

Wasn't trying to be a smartarse, I promise!:D

To digress just a little further (another LG trait), 2005 onwards has been a golden period for Qld schoolboy rugby, with the likes of Pocock, Cooper, Genia, Simmons, Quirk, Shipperley and Davies to name just a few who were running around. 2007 was probably the pick of the years with O'Connor, Tapuai, To'omua, Lance, Morahan, Toua, Schatz, Swanepoel and Slipper all going on to play Super rugby and five already Wallabies.

Back to the game, hope Edward Quirk has a big one, and now that he has started at 10, that Harris plays with a bit more calmness.

MEDIA RELEASE

REFEREE CHANGE FOR WEEK TWO SUPER RUGBY MATCH - REDS V FORCE

Glen Jackson tweaked a calf muscle at training yesterday (Thursday 1 March), and while relatively minor, he has been advised by medical teams that he should not run hard on it within a 48 hour period.

This means Jackson will step down from refereeing the Australian Conference match at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday 3 March (Reds v Force), and will be replaced in the middle by Ian Smith.

Andrew Lees comes into the role of Assistant Referee for the match.

AMENDED OFFICIAL DETAILS FOR WEEK TWO FIXTURE:

Tale of the tape according to me.

Defensive collisions - Reds to dominate this area 92% tackle accuracy round 1 may drop back to high 80s but they seem to have the systems and alignment working well early and let's face it the Force are unlikely to have enough creativity to challenge and stretch the Reds line. Lance in the back line does not lose too much from Ant.

Breakdown - Force to dominate here if they get their discipline right at the breakdown. Only saw snippets of their games so far but they have conceded a lot of penalties (I am including trials for this too). Reds wont be too far off the mark but will struggle to get continuity for attack. YEs we are in for another slow and drawn out game.

Set Peice - Anae coming in will mean that the Reds front row will be a lot stronger. Lineouts - Sharpie's presence will force (pardon the pun) the Reds to throw away from him making them even more predictable.

Reds class in the back-line, workmen like tight 5 and Mike Harris should get them 4 points. I dont expect either team getting 5 comp pts this week again though.

Finally Jackson not controlling the game is a good thing for the Reds. The Reds have not formed a great relationship with him in his short career.

Nah I didn't tip them this week. I only found out there was a warning by accidently clicking them.

As much as I love the Force, I think Mike Harris will be the difference this week.

There is always a chance the Reds will lose concentration being too confident or something. But that's unlikely if a huge crowd turns out.

Don't think overconfiedence will be an issue. Link seems to be able to keep the players feet firmly on the ground.

The rugby referee still has one of the most demanding jobs in the world. A ref needs to be a qualified lawyer. He needs to be a social worker, sorting through a number of personalities on the pitch. He needs to be a fitness freak and an anger management counsellor and a policeman and a pitch inspector. The ref then needs to make split second interpretations of hundreds of laws over and over again during the course of 80 minutes.

At the end of it all, he needs the hide of a rhinoceros as the world becomes a critic.

I've got the feeling....deep.....deep....did I say deep down in the guts.....the deep down lower intestinal tract in fact...that....just maybe...maybe the upset could be on at Suncorp. Call it the alignment of the planets, the pattern of the tea leaves in the bottom of the cup, the ramblings of a demented gypsy soothsayer on the way home from dinner, a died in the wool hunch......I'm thinking the Force in a boil over by 8 points.

I reserve the right to deny all knowledge of the aforementioned statements in the advent of a dissapointing Force result at 7.00pm WST Saturday.
