    Rugby News from unexpected places

Nah, definitely only 2312 at Denver. Very cold conditions kept it below 3,000 for sure. Sacramento had over 3400 from what the stream mentioned. Looked like more but its hard to tell. I wouldn't be surprised to see that figure grow from todays game.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Hoping for an average of 3,000. Which is what they have got so far when you average it out. Though if that's the level of entertainment we see coming from the league they could easily achieve higher.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

ProRugby has kicked off. With Denver stealing the win over Ohio in very icy conditions at Infinity Park, Glendale. End score was 16-13. Overall reported to be a very entertaining game. Was in danger of being called off earlier in the day as there has been a lot of snow i the Rockies of late...

They mentioned last week that they wouldn't be broadcasting a game this round.

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

The only Rugby played in my area was in the form of knockouts. League has always been the entrenched version alongside Soccer and AFL.

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

That's another reason why the move toward 7s is a smart as well. It's essentially the perfect contemporary participation sport across a number of different levels. Essentially a sport for the 21st century (with the irony of having been invented in the 19th century). It also has proven to be a...

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

That's why they need to start pushing Viva 7s a lot more aggressively.

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

Very true. It's why I'm supportive of the idea of pushing both Viva 7s and Sevens at the community game level. I like 7s as a spring/summer based sports as it allows for short but enjoyable seasons of say 8 weeks. It also offers accessibility for children. I'd like to see the ARU use a...

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

I agree with much of this sentiment. But I also think participation should be a priority. From experience Rugby is very much a players game both on and off the pitch. The promotion of 7s may very well tilt that but so far throughout my time playing and supporting the game this has most certainly...

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

See I read the plan and saw a marked emphasis on expanding the base from the bottom up rather than top down. Driving the game into schools nationwide as a means to reach the greatest number of children seems like a good idea. Certainly not pissing it up against a wall. The wmphasis on 7s is a...

And keeping with the pedantry theme. It's New South Welshmen not Welshers.

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

I find these quite interesting. Particularly on how they end up being structured. I'd have it as NRC U19s, Super U20s and then Uni Comp. I think this will create a really competitive pathway. Hopefully we see a move to make 7s a summer sport particularly in schools.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

I imagine a lot of this effort will be to get it on the national cirriculum. Do that and the resources and reach will grow pretty substantially. I doubt a decade will be sufficient but probably enough time to significant change in the country.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

World Rugby and AliBaba have just signed a 10 year agreement to grow Rugby in China. This includes AliBaba assisting in revamping all domestic Rugby structures and increasing content throughout Chima via its media platforms. Wants to eventually have a leg of the WS in China, possibly a RWC in...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Have given it a read. Interesting perspectives in there. I think they are essentially on the money with the broadcast aspect. Was it yesterday or perhaps Tuesday morning Twitter announced its deal to live stream Thursday Night Football in the US. There is a ridiculous amount of growth potential...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

There's over 51,000 players in Spain according to Wiki. That's not an insignificant number. Of the few Spanish Rugby guts I'm in regular contact with the general sentiment is while excited. The game in Spain needs to figure out the best way to capitalise on this event. Create some momentum. Draw...
