    Rugby News from unexpected places

Yeah! I think they'd be a good initiative for the likes of Brazil, Chile, Kenya etc. I'd even suggest sending U20s national teams as I think they'd be more even to start.

Jarryd Hayne signs with Fiji Sevens

Different era. It wouldn't be an easy transition and certainly not applicable to everyone but it could be done.

Jarryd Hayne signs with Fiji Sevens

Burgess noted in an article that he had to not only work on his ball skills upon arriving in Rugby but had to also work on his speed and athleticism as well as add a few extra kgs to his frame. I think with the exception of tall 2nd rowers players from either code with enough preparation and...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

A for the game in the Americas. I've long thought of it as a huge growth market for Rugby. Particularly Sth America. According to some sources there are supposed to in around a million participants in Sth America but from what I can see the real figure is about half that. Still, the positive is...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

It's beginning to settle now. Crowds are sitting in and around the 2,500 mark which is what they were hoping for. Will be interesting to see what kind of turnout Denver get this weekend. Only their second home for the season. They managed 2300 in what were terrible conditions on the opening...

Jarryd Hayne signs with Fiji Sevens

Yeah but now he's trying to crack into a team filled with 'unbelievable athletes' to compete in a competition where that's pretty much the standard. Something league trolls like Weidler don't seem to understand is that unlike the 9s, 7s in Rugby isn't some preseason sideshow. It's a serious...

The ARU should help out the Eels

Several years ago while living on the edge of existence (Karratha, WA) in lieu of Rugby I played a season of League. Now something I always did and was considered good at was offloading in the tackle while growing up playing Rugby. I had played a bit of League at school and was encouraged to...

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

Which is why if we are to ever attempt to get a product on FTA it should be the NRC. That way we get the best of both worlds. The benefit of Super Rugby and hopefully more eyeballs watching tge game via the NRC.

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

I doubt we'll see the TT league break up in 5 years time. Expand, yes. But not split. I understand your point in regards to the need for FTA exposure but I really cannot see us leaving Super Rugby not without a viable alternative ready to go with little to no lost revenue. Not that I don't think we...

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

For all the PI boys I knew growing up it was a simple question of opportunity. Nine NRL clubs in Sydney to the one Super Rugby franchise. There is a big emphasis on being able to provide for their families and RL is the simpler choice in terms of opportunity. Most actively support both. Some may prefer...

    NRC onwards and upwards

If you actually paid attention to the NRC you'd have noted a swathe of young guys taking on the challenge.

    Shute Shield 2016

What was the final score? Missed most pf the 2nd half as the plus7 stream died on me.

Yeah, they've made it quite easy to actually watch the games. The production quality has been excellent as well.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Nothing official but SD got between 2500-3500. SF looked like several hundred. Which is both surprising and at the same time not so. There's been a degree of collective dissonance toward the league from the SF Rugby community. Which is odd. Hopefully many can overcome this and actually come out...

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

I think relegating the Premier competition is Pfitzy ultimate point. Instead of the Premier clubs feeding into the NRC competition during its current window they would act essentially as reserve grade sides to a wider NRC. I don't mind that idea. Though I think the NRC could still be extended...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

The games in the first week were outstanding probably the most fun I've had watching Rugby in a while. Handling a little loose but not too bad. The SD/Sac game yesterday was a little sloppy at times mainly due to both teams really trying to push the pace. Haven't seen the SF/Den game yet. Will...

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

If I were looking to launch a Rugby BBL equivalent I'd look toward more making it a league structure more so than a tournament. I've mentioned this a few times before but look up Ultra 7s. That's the format I'd use but instead of 7s I'd use 10s. This way you could run two games both mens and...

Well the temporary stadium they've erected holds 3500. I reckon they might be able to fill it.
