Canberra Vikings - Offical NRC Team Thread

Probably our greatest curse in the game. The old boy's networks.

Canberra Vikings - Offical NRC Team Thread

From how I read it this team will be run by the Brumbies. I also think it is an attempt to draw more of the ACT Rugby community in that may have felt alienated by the heavy Vikings involvement. Personally, I saw no issue with the Vikings set up. They were willing to foot the bill so they had...

    NRC onwards and upwards

Thinking more about it and I'm coming around. The Rams could adopt the Central West. The Rays the Newcastle-Hunter/Central Coast and a Sydney squad adopt the Illawarra.

Canberra Vikings - Offical NRC Team Thread

How would it be seen as a backwards step? From memory a number of people seemed to have issues with them playing in Vikings colours and under the Vikings name. This solves that. Surely it would be a positive step. It appears to be reverting back to a true representative format. Perhaps the...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

I've often wonder what the dolar amount was per person. Which sort of backs up my perspective on directing more funds to development. If exposing a new participate is of similar value then it's money well spent. In regards to the SS. I think the value is derived from just how what the clubs...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

To be fair, for all the good the ABC does on the programming front it has limited widespread appeal. Even on 7Two it offers better value in terms of potential reach.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Well, as I see it the $300k is a grant. It provides them with the ability to access the public. It comes down to them on how the exploit that access.

    NRC onwards and upwards

I'd prefer to keep a country element but you do make a fairly good point in regards to the new Uni venue being perfect for the NRC. I suppose that if they were to go with three Sydney teams then the linking up with three country regions might work.

    Really? Who?

    Shute Shield 2016

No it looks legitimately good. No cricket pitch. Nice modern looking grandstand. Made for rectangular field ball sports.

    Shute Shield 2016

Subsidized by NSWRU via paying the ABC to broadcast it and now to the tune of $300k from the ARU to ensure it stays on 7Two. Again, their links to juniors is tenuous at best. Having kids wear their kit for a handful of rep games really isn't development. Could be argued the more centralized JGC...

It's behind a pay wall. Care to give us the highlights.

    Shute Shield 2016

The new Uni ground looks very good.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

The $300k came from an article relating to ARU fund changes stemming from the new deal. From memory the SS broadcast cost something like $750k last season and they supposedly broke even. The $300k is to ensure the broadcast is secure.

    Shute Shield 2016

Okay, but surely hiring a ground from the council doesn't amount to $100,000 a year. They'd also have to pay for their own upkeep of their grounds.

    Shute Shield 2016

Regarding relying on volunteers. Because its an supposedly amateur club participating in a supposedly amateur competition. Perhaps Pulver's comments weren't helpful but still if Southern as memtioned in another post could turn a $100k profit without the need for grants them why cannot everyone...

    Shute Shield 2016

That's great. I wonder how they managed that? Perhaps they could let the other clubs in on how they did it. Good self sustaining club.

    Shute Shield 2016

What I'm going say now may upset a few. But, everything made public in this debate strikes me as a temper tantrum of a spoilt brat. They feel entitled to money just purely because they are who they are. And when they realise they're not getting it they're acting like the poor child of...

    Shute Shield 2016

They haven't been able to in the last 20 years of professionalism. Hell, the evil ARU are funding the SS to the tune of $300,000 a season to ensure its kept on the TV. How will this all of a suden change.

    Shute Shield 2016

Money would be something stopping them. There's a reason for the JV structure adopted by the NSW teams. Only a handful of teams if that can afford going it alone. And as Slim suggests. Outside of their grouping who will they play? The QRU run the Queensland squads so it's pretty obvious that if...
