Pretty sure he left the Storm to get away from Melbourne and move back with the family in Queensland. Playing for Ipswich Jets Rugby League team along side A.J Gilbert (former Reds) now.

A.J. was one hell of a player from all accounts as he was growing up. Like most kids that are good out bush he often ended up playing 3 grades in one day. His age plus the higher ones. He never got a shot at the Reds. He is a possible rough dimond.

AJ Gilbert should be a superstar by now. However he never got his act together and trained hard enough to make the step up. Even at club level last year he was basically a passenger. Im not sure that he can recover his career from this point.

It's a real shame because in the final of the U19 world cup, he was the best player on the pitch.

Thanks Jauzy - always appreciate your tip offs!

It was confirmed today, he's going to play for Bourgoin, with Brando Va'aulu. Still nothing official for Nemani Nadolo.

Nemani Nadolo was named in the Fiji test squad and my guess is that Europe is calling the big man. Would have been nice to have seen him turn out once for the Tah's this year.

Re: Victorian Rebels 2011

All Blacks and Chiefs lock Kevin O'Neill has signed to play for fledgling Australian Super 15 rugby franchise the Melbourne Rebels.

Stuff.co.nz understands that O'Neill, who played his only test against the Springboks in 2008, will soon be announced as the latest recruit by Rod Macqueen's new Rebels side.

O'Neill missed most of this year's Super 14 through an Achilles injury, picked up on the team's early season trip to South Africa and only made it back on the field for the last couple of rounds of the competition.

The 28-year-old, has always been known as a hard working lock who excels at the tight play and is a strong lineout option.

The Rebels are already taking shape into a handy outfit for next year's Super 15 with plenty of experience in their ranks.

Players already on their books include Greg Somerville, Hoani MacDonald, Danny Cipriani, Cooper Vuna, Stirling Mortlock, Julian Huxley, Gareth Delve and Adam Freier.

O'Neill's departure will be a blow for the Chiefs, who have already lost Sione Lauaki from their forwards for next year, with the powerful No 8 signing with Clermont in France.

It means Culum Rettalick, who ended up playing a fair bit for the Chiefs this year will feature again heavily next season and pack down in the second row with Craig Clarke.

Re: Victorian Rebels 2011

they had Harold Mitchell, the main financial backer on sports tonight last night, said he was still confident falau would sign but said it didnt matter, indicated he is now making a decision on living in melbourne or queensland. Also confirmed that the colours will be blue and white (vic state colours) so they will match nicely with the brumbies. Said the jersey designs were in but he wouldnt show them, there is a weary dunlop vic rugby luncheon coming up so they might launch there official logo, colours there i think.

Given that they've now got O'Neill, MacDonald, Byrnes and Campbell on their books it would seem Vickerman signing on for 2k11 is out of the question? Was this being mentioned or am I confused with another thread?

Re: Victorian Rebels 2011

tugboat was selected at fullback for the wallabies in the amatuer era. Can't remember which test, but he broke his arm at training a day or so before he was meant to debut. Never featured again until 99 when he played 10!

Re: Victorian Rebels 2011

I'm struggling to remember O'Neill but I would have if he shifted people around and I don't think he is a shifter. They need a power 2nd rower desperately because right now they have a nutter (Byrne), a marshmellow (Campbell light) and a nice as pie 4/5/6 Steady Eddie, McDonald.

4/5/6/8 Luke Jones will still be 19 when the 2011 S15 starts so you can't expect too much from him as a 2nd rower. When he's older I will expect him to be playing Super rugby, and more than that, like Hugh McMenimen, but next year he will be like 3M was at 19.

O'Neill is a nice direct lock, won't do anything fancy, but knows his role.
