I doubt someone at least slightly in the know didn't dictate what they wanted written to the website developer.

What position a player plays isn't going to be some big game-changing secret, the website is done as a service to fans rather than to throw your adversaries off your tactical trail.
Point is that the squad doesn't assemble until October, half the team is still overseas, I wouldn't go reading into positions posted on the internet

There are a few similarities between Melbourne FC's new logo and the Melbourne Rebels logo

they both utilise the same colors, including the dark blue, light blue, grey and red, they both have a shield and they both as pointed out already have 5 stars.

oh and they both have Melbourne ;)

interestingly the Melbourne Rebels enter 2011 without any of there squad been a current Wallaby, except for Laurie Weeks, so much for there wallaby recruitment drive

I'd noticed that too... 14 overseas players and 3 leaguies... only about 30% of players coming from Super 14

tell you what though, Weeks is hard done by not to be there.

A fit Morty would've been damn handy, if only for experience, at the moment.

More unlikely, but feasible, I reckon Adam Byrne's had a great season and his aggression wouldn't go astray. Similarly Richard Kingi may have pushed for a bench spot above Burgess.

Have played against ben roberts, sydney uni many times. He is one tough hooker. Always gives 110 percent. The rebels should give him a go-he's hungry

I am still amazed Weekes has been ignored, of all the young (and fit)THPs, he is the best compromise.

The problem FP came with Deans playing him out of position and him failing dismally at LHP against the Poms. I just don't understand these type of decisions from the coaching staff. I know that they wanted to see if he could play both sides but we needed a specialist THP. Deans man love for Ma'afu meant he wasn't going to get dropped so he wanted Weeks on the bench and when that didn't work Slipper got the nod as being better able to hold both sides up. We would have been better off with Weeks in the side and Ma'afu gone with Slipper still on the bench.

Vuna will be good, could even be great, nobody is questioning that.

However, did you see the article about him talking about how he is targeting Wobs for the 2011 WC. A bit silly if you ask me.

Its not really that silly is it? I mean he is an elite athlete playing very well in a incredibly difficult competition and Australia does not have many lethal wingers - with genuine finishing ability.

His chances of making the squad are improbable however you would have to be disappointed if the bloke wasn't even setting himself the goal.

This bloke is notorious for using rugby to bump up his league contract. He has threatened to go to union many times in the past. In any event not a good buy imo. Goes walkabout in big games.

Rebels launch bid for Panther Pritchard
Bret Harris and Brent Read From: The Australian August 24, 2010

THE ARU and Melbourne Rebels have launched a belated bid for Penrith Panthers star Frank Pritchard.
The move comes as Wallabies five-eighth Quade Cooper ponders a switch to rugby league.

Pritchard's management has held talks with the Rebels, but negotiations are well progressed with the Panthers, who could make an announcement about re-signing him as early as today.

Pritchard's primary position in rugby league is in the second row, but at 187cm and 112kg, he could play number eight or in the outside backs in rugby union.

Given Rebels head coach Rod Macqueen's penchant for big, hard-running backs, Pritchard would most likely play in the midfield if he changed codes.

Macqueen has already recruited rugby league (or ex-league) backs Luke Rooney and Cooper Vuna, who scored four tries in Newcastle Knights' win against Brisbane Broncos last Friday night.

Of Samoan descent, the 26-year-old Pritchard has played 18 rugby league Tests for New Zealand.

But he was born in Sydney, which means he would be eligible to play for the Wallabies.

Pritchard made his NRL debut for the Panthers against Manly in 2003 and has been with the Penrith club ever since.

It is understood Pritchard would rather switch codes than play for another NRL team against the Panthers.

Penrith officials have been locked in ongoing talks with Pritchard and remain optimistic they can keep him.

"It's been going backwards and forwards," Panthers chief executive Mick Leary said. "We're still hopeful of doing the job."

Leary said he was unaware of of interest in Pritchard from rugby union.

"We haven't heard anything about it," Leary said. "We had only heard about the NRL clubs. I have spoken to his manager. We're pretty upfront."

This reeks of BS.

He certainly doesn't have Vuna's (or the rest of the Rebels') squeaky clean record and it's so late on in the piece. My theory, his manager has taken a leaf out of Cooper's strategy book.

Also the other 2 leaguies (Saffy and Vuna) both have a strong union background.

I know Saffy has played Australian Sevens, U21 and Schoolboys which is solid, but I'm not too sure on Vuna's Rugby background... What is it?

Edit: Googled it- Vuna hasn't played since he was 15

He's a winger, not much to know really. Get the ball and run with it.
