What is almost certain now is that the Force will feel completely burned and have a truckload of money ready to spend.

Any decent Wallaby looking to move west could be in for a huge payday (provided they aren't a backrower).

I think that in the next week or so someone will get paid well above the odds to move to the Force.

Pretty unprofessional from the reds and Will. I think the reds have pulled off a
Miracle keeping him and Willi has been raped without even knowing it.

Some of you need to keep up. It has been stated that the Farce management leaked the news on Saturday night & as such has backfired dramatically in their faces. I reckon the last few years of dealings out west, O'Connor, Giteau, Mitchell the coaches, now Genia et al have shown that it's still the wild wild west out there & cowboys are running the show.

Whoever leaked it to the Fox Sports crew and Journo's is what started the shitfest. Will made his mind up about going to the Force on Friday night -> Told Ewen etc he was going. Saturday rolls around murmurs begin and then smack bang in the middle of the Force game Clarkie starts saying Genia's signed, he's done it.

Naturally, QRU knowing what Will has told them issues a press release because as far as they're concerned, he's gone (which is pretty standard practice).

I'm not entirely seeing how the QRU acted unprofessionally from here? More it was whoever leaked it was the unprofessional dick.

all this shit about pilaging talant from other clubs im sorry but this is prof sport not state or orign shit get over it.

Or instead of chasing established players developed elsewhere you could go back to finding young blokes looking for a chance (Pocock. O'Connor) and turn them into stars in their own right & in the process revel in the warm inner glow that your franchise is making a contribution instead of just throwing crazy amounts of money chasing a dream.

They should spend their money on a decent coaching team. Not just a decent head coach, but a decent coach in every position from the top down to the force A team.

Id be happy with the Force pilaging players who are on the fringes of being in the starting squad. (Eg, Kingi, Harris) Wouldn't be too pleased with them targeting already well-established starting players (Eg Genia).

I stand corrected. He left how much on the table? $600,000+ over the three years?

That must have been one fucking good rendition of the team song.

Nobody has enhanced themself in all of this - not the Force admin, not the Reds admin, not Genia's management. Journos are journos - if people throw them a juicy bone, they are obliged to sink their teeth into it.
If this is how contract negotiations are to play out for big names, we are in for a rough ride.
Pretty sad episode, really.

70% agree Cyclo, but, with hindsight it's perhaps the Reds/QRU that have handled the matter the most skilfully in that they have bagged the Genia re-signing with no more $s offered and thus at a $ evel they believe is economically responsible.

The Force seem to be behaving in an almost desperate manner and yet again failing into the trap of wanting to build once more from a platform of 'glamour star' signings which actually has never really worked for them to date.

The only real 'turnarounds' that have worked well for Aus S14/15 teams in recent years have been on the White/McKenzie model. Namely, start with a hands on, excellent coach, rebuild the culture and team with a core group that first and first foremost are willing to work hard and learn and genuinely act as team players (and beware of 'stars' unless they comply), and aim for game-to-game improvements and gradual increases in execution quality. Design game plans to suit the playing group, etc, etc. The Link 2010-11 model and the (so far) successful White 2012 model have remarkable similarities IMO. The selection of the coach is absolutely crucial to all of this and it's quite possible that the right coach to get the Force successful may in fact not want the Genias and Coopers, but may want to do build upwards from less high-profile playing stock.

Hopefully the associated rumours about the Force signing a top-flight coach are not smoke and mirrors as well.
