Just checked out the sides on the website. The depth is good for the club. The quality of player in 3's and 4's are outstanding.

Should be a cracking day and high standard with those squads.

Looking forward to it

Hoiles out young Hanigan back to second row and munro to 8. That changes things, I think sportsbet are spot on with both sides 1.87.

Wicks need an old head there in the pack

Not a great performance at Coogee today boys! What happened?

I can't talk on behalf of team however I know the following....
They lost prop Toa Asa the day of the match. His replacement was an English chap called Charlie Hughes who wasn't good enough IMO.
They lost lock Dan Faleafa with an ankle injury the day before. He was replaced by Chris 2 Fathers (sorry don't know his name - he is new to the Club) - he went OK IMO however he is brand new and that disrupted the team
They lost Hoiles on the Thursday before with an ankle injury.
3 forwards out in the 3 days before the match. Most of the top teams seem to have a solid core of longer term players - we have a lot of new faces.
Defence is still a big improvement over last year and a highlight for mine.
They just can't seem to put teams away - I think they should have or could have won every game they lost.
They are not far off the pace yet losing - must be very frustrating for the coaches.

Crikey, you set some high standards.

For a pack of piggies that was monstered at scrum time, the Wicks did so well to fight back and almost win the game.

The Hobbits should have capatilised on their scrum much better than they did and, had they done so, they could have won the game in a canter by 20 + points.

The Hobbits are a good outfit, and you should give your Wicks boys the credit they deserve.

It was a far more entertaining game than the Aussie rules game served up by the Ponies and Shorks last night.

A very good turnout at the Wicks for Ladies and little persons day.
Wick fifths played Colleagues fourths and complacency saw them 15 nil down before they decided to play . Wicks 24-22
Fourths were horrible . Wicks had a very good team on paper and that was where it stayed. They were out enthused and gave up numerous penalties allowing Souths to get up by three at the end. 27-24 to souths.
Third grade , again a very good team on paper, came out to play and won convincingly 35-10. Their set piece was good, and they had some success out wide to go with their excellent kicker who actually missed a couple.
Second grade came out to prove they could step up and took the game 61-26. They were up four tries before Souths rallied and scored a couple themselves but Souths were never in the hunt. The ten looked good for Wicks as did the 15. But really , this was a team effort.
First grade showed they had some ticker by getting ahead after half time despite being 18-0 down early. The scrum did not look good though it held on later in the game, and i think Souths were lucky with a couple of the ref's calls.
Thought the seven for wicks was best forward closely followed by the eight for Souths although he was not once pinged for a clean out from the side.. The three for souths ( ex wicks colt) has also improved markedly and had a good game.
I am with Mr Jarse on the SS game compared with the Canberra game.

They have to find a spot for A Kellaway to start, he is serious class. Dont like to be critical of players but Charlie Hughes is definately not up to 1st or 2nd grade standard.

Hanigan actually did some really good things around the field but cant help but think his lack of size effected us at scrum time. on one side of the scrum we had Goodbody and Hanigan both would be struggling to be 100kilos.

Need a big unit like harris in there behind goodbody

I thought that Hanigan looked a little lost at times yesterday. His rugby brain was evident and he seemed to know what he needed to do but looked like a boy against men (which is what he is) when he tried to execute it.

Give him a couple of seasons to physically mature and he will probably get there. He has the makings of a damn fine footballer.

used to be a start in thirds or twos when coming back!
newcomers never went to ones without having a go in lower grades first.

Where is the early season elitism now? Just asking?

Something evident in the first 20+ mins on Saturday was the enthusiasm from Souths - they were yahooing and back slapping at every break in play. Wicks were very quiet in comparison. Wicks did well to hang in the forward battle considering the scrummaging lesson they were getting.

Agree with the above, poor Hughes looked lost. Metcher had a field day.

Having those 3 forwards withdraw would hurt any side.

Backs were good when the pigs went forward.

Looked up the Two Dad's second rower. Ex Kiwi by way of Souths in QLD, Western Force and most recently Ireland. Thought he went well given first up start. Added some body size to the scrum at least. Hanigan will be good with 15 or so kegs on him.

Scrum will look better with Faleafa in the 2nd row alongside Eden-Whaitiri and Asa back in the front row.

Agree about Kellaway and Roods continues to impress also. Kellaway is in the Aust u20's team so he'll be away for a few weeks.

not that we are assured a top 6 by any means but isnt Faleafa leaving before the end of the season? Surely Harris has done enough to earn a shot, would be nice to another Randwick Junior who played three years in first grade colts given a go anyway.
