Kevin Foote coached the Rebels for longer than one season. Rebels results under Foote:

2021 - 4th (out of 5) in Super Rugby AU
- 9th (out of 10) in Super Rugby TT
2022 - 10th (out of 12)
2023 - 11th
2024 - 8th

Not sure Foote has a record that's hard to thumb one's nose at...
They also seemed to have a bit of a bump in quality with the arrival of Todd Sampson from the Force.

Named after the Nursery Rhyme?

Is this a new Tassie Rugby rep side or did they exsit with that name prior to the NBL side?
Named after the Ant (which is probably named after the nursery rhyme). It's the non-cliche option for Tasmania compared to the tigers/devils. They pre-date the NBL side too:

Tasmania are undisputed national champions and the envy of Australia's sporting landscape - in basketball.

But the Jack Jumpers' history dates back long before Scott Roth's ballers won their NBL 23/24 title.

Two decades prior, that name was held solely by the Apple Isle's rugby team across various Australian Rugby Shield and Emerging/Southern States tournaments since 2000.

Much like their venomous name-sake, the Jack Jumpers men pride themselves on playing well above their weight - and they'll need to against their fancied opponents at this year's ARS in Caloundra.

Wouldn't the obvious thing to do in 2026 & 2028 be to invite Argentina for a similar tour one year, and a return tour the other year? They are on similar ranking to us currently.

Alternatively, what about entering NSW and Qld Origin teams in the Pacific Nations Cup (NSW +ACT +Vic; Qld + the rest, or unassigned players get to choose but distributed equally)? And culminating in a test v Fiji.

Or a bit of all of the above.

Absolutely. We'd be missing our cut of the RC which is likely to be better funded with the support from NZ and RSA, but that kind of is the point.

More than that, an on-going issue i think, has been that we are fronting two of the best teams in the world with little build or prep. In terms of team development, there is nothing wrong with a series that starts with something similar to this years Wales and Georgia, some work if possible with Pacifica, then a highlight with Argentina.

It could be a decent prep for the EOYT tour to Europe.

The issue with touring Argentina is there is zero commercial benefit from it. They very recently have experience 200% inflation. So any tv deal or commercial deals signed aren’t worth much a few months later

Yeah I figured the economics of a tour to Argentina wouldn’t add up. So we incorporate them into some sort of PI arrangement out this way. Or we just do a 2 match hit and run there like we just did.

I'd rather the Wallabies played Argentina, Japan and Fiji as "pacific" Quad nations with Australia A doing the tour.

Shifting to a Wallaby tour means we lose a significant amount of game day revenue and broadcast. With Argentina games being 12-6am, there's barely any eyes on the TV.

However with Japan and Fiji, we have two counterparts in our timezone so the away games are at least in prime viewership time.

Even Fiji provides challenges given the lighting in Suva - 6 of their 7 home games this season were 1 or 2pm kickoff local time, so 11am or 12pm AEST which isn't exactly prime time on a Saturday.

Obviously still preferable to 12-6am, of course.

I agree but don't think we're going to have a lot of choice. Without the Bokke and the AB's it really cuts down the amount of test footy opponents in our region.

America is not a bad option for a test/tour if you can convince them to do most of the hosting on west coast and then look to book twilight fixtures

east coast afternoon kicks off between Australia vs Eagles is not favourable Timezone but those RL fixtures in Las Vegas were in a prime time slot for Sunday afternoon footy
