Wales have named former Reds U19 winger Leuan Cornelius in their U20s squad, he signed with Ospreys and moved over in November

I have heard on the grapevine that there is an LIV Golf style Rugby competition in the pipeline? Where a group of players and teams will be organised on big money .. $1000000 plus per player, in a short window tournament. Games to be played at same ground on same day . Not sure if or how this would eventuate but if it did it could help alleviate the financial issues of the game for the elite players. I guess also similar to the IPL cricket. Where players can play in this plus return home for Super rugby, the European and Japanese equivalent and Test matches? Anyone heard that?

The elite players' salaries are not the financial issues impacting rugby though. It also doesn't make a lucrative French/Japanese offer look less appealing.

To be honest, I'd think that a LIV-style tournament would in fact put more financial pressure on already struggling clubs and comps.

Scotland looking to increase their foreign legion:

Ex Western Force Academy and Perth born Alex Masibaka added to Scotland Squad.

Australia-born number eight Alexander Masibaka, who plays for Soyaux-Angouleme in the second tier of French rugby, has received a shock call-up to Scotland's Six Nations squad.....

Its not sounding good for Ikitau to stay in Australia.

Massive offers from Japan and his interview in the Canberra Times today hinted at how it was lovely to travel with his family

On current form he's one of the most appealing free agents in the world.

Sucks domestically and for the Brums big time but he's a walk up overseas pick for the Wallabies.

As we've seen with big Will, it doesn't really work for the RC if he's in Europe. Hopefully, he goes to Japan.

We need to set up some partnership typed arrangements with Japanese clubs to ensure we keep access to our better players. Europe is useless to us.

Just sharing a couple of angles.
We now live in a global economy.
We have been promoting rugby as a global game so aspiring players can leave school, stick in rugby and see the world.
South Africa pulled out of Super Rugby a few years back now, has that hampered the World Cup success?
Even our 3rd tier here in Aus recruits from around the world.

We now have only 4 professional rugby teams in Aus for our kids to flow into competing against other codes that have many.
How many contracts open up each year?

Why isn't a business plan being created that strengthens our global code and provides opportunities to our kids coming through schools.

By all means, yes I want to keep rugby in Aus strong and our talent here playing - does the current super rugby structure enable that?
Could supporting and strengthening the club comp be a better angle and have state games billed and promoted like state of origin?

just to add we do have the Australian 7s program as well - so technically 5 pro teams.

100%, love 7s and could be used in different ways.

I've always seen 7s as a different code - not rugby.
It can attract players from League, AFL, touch, and maybe even soccer.

I referenced a business plan above - by all means, 7s should be included in that plan.
Walls should not be put up that stop kids from playing - but @Crashy that's a different thread

Speaking of pinching players from other places. I wonder if anyone had half an eye on the RL Premier League 9s. Yeah there was a lot of washed up players but from the short 10min stints I watched there were some big units who could move at good pace with great ball handling.

Few outliers here or there are surely worth a shot over a guy like Trae Williams was.

Fairly depressing comment from Christy Doran in his Jeremey Williams article today at the roar
Christy, I know as a journalist you have had to report more on the facts of the Schmidt situation, and not necessarily what your gut feel is, but would you say that player announcments like this could be a sign Schmidt is staying?
CD - That’d be a big leap with just one signing in recent months. I’d say at least a third of the off-contract players will head overseas regardless of whether Joe stays or not.

At this stage, I'd be surprised if TT, LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto), Ikitau and Jake Gordon stay.

I'm guessing we will be able to re-sign Frost, McReight and Lolesio.

Tom Wright - who knows, depends on if he gets a Tom Banks sized offer.
