Genuinely two of our most talented juniors in Nawaqanitawase and Gordon gone. This is bleak.
He isn't Stephen Larkham and was a completely disaster against Fiji in RWC. So good luck, sayonara.

He's going to a tiny team and he's far away from stars like Cameron Munster or Nathan Cleary

Need to stop the language about tiny team with NRL. The NRL is the largest rugby competition in the world and it’s not even close. The Top 14 is on the rise but still not comparable. The Titans revenue streams would beat 95% of rugby clubs around the world. He’s about to have more publicity in the following week than he’s had in the last 12months.

How much is the Titans budget? A team like Toulouse has a budget of 40-50 million dollars per season

Spot on- Titans’ home games have an average attendance of around 14k (I actually looked) which is better than all bar the Reds.

Some of their players like AJ Bronson, Kieran Fulton and Dave Fifita have far bigger profiles than nearly any Wallaby player.

The NRL is a competition that far bigger reach than rugby.

Budget means nothing. Half the Top 14 is only viable because of a benefactor and not genuine revenue streams.

I will admit Toulouse are one of the few rugby brands that commands wider appeal. The TV deal (which is combined T14 and PD2) is only about 2/3rds of the NRL. Hence the benefactors are propping up a lot of the immense expenditure.

T14 heading in right direction and hopefully brings others with them.

Actually budget is the most important thing cause is the money you have to spend in a season. It doesn't matter where it comes from as long as it's not illegal

And the answer you find in the NRL. Roosters is a club with small crowds but a wealthy benefactor. Roosters is like a French Top 14 club, and they beat Titan in any field

Roosters have the 3rd highest average crowd in the nrl of 23k
Got to remember there are 17 going on 20 nrl sides and 10 sides in nsw alone compared to 1 rugby side
Carter Gordens profile is now bigger since he signed and there will be plenty of leagues wondering who he even is

Saying you are excited by the direction, the positivity around the game, the professionalism of the club etc are all very thinly vailed swipes at RA.

Might be valid but not needed.
Yeah it’s just lip service.

Titans are irrelevant to the NRL and Des needs to throw something at the wall and see if it sticks. He did sign Tom Wright out of Joeys where he sent his boys and played a few games at 6 before sending him on his way.

With another 2 sides going into the NRL teams are going to lower the requirement standard. There’s only ever 4-5 guys genuinely worth a rep jersey and we’ll see more just happy to have a 1st grader over a state cup player.

Even if they threw a 2 year average contract at him it’s going to be 450k/year

Still think he’ll be in Japan half way through 2026 when the titans want to go to market for 2027.

They have the exact same amount of money and the NRL ensures this. Gone are the days of Manly buying Magpies players because they have no money.

Clubs can assist with 3rd party deals which the Roosters have heaps of but so do the Titans with the Frizelle family. People love to throw shit at the Roosters but they just do it better than most. Them and the Broncos with their networks.

Wealthy benefactors don’t directly benefit player payments (every team gets the same amount of money from the NRL that they must spend on their roster).

Where they do help is on the periphery- more funding for the actual club administration/ facilities and potentially the long-term networking benefits. It’s arguable whether they can even help with third party contracts as these can’t be facilitated by the club.

I actually don’t think the move by Carter is really left field from him. It’s not like he’s signed with the Raiders or Warriors.

He’s a sunny coast boy who then moved to Brisbane. Playing for the Titans gives him a chance to either base himself in Brisbane again and commute or setup for another coastal lifestyle and get paid to play footy. Gives him a bit of stability back around his mates.

He is a young kid who was frankly far from a sure thing to be starting for the Wallabies this year. Good luck to him.

Ehh it is still just the Titans bro.

It doesn’t matter who it is
In 2012 the nrl and super rugby has the same salary cap of $4m
Super rugby is now $5m and nrl is $12 heading towards $15m quickly
Average nrl player can get $500k or more now so why would you knock back $800k from the titans who get more to their games then any super right side to stick around for $200k + potential wallaby payments by a sport who put you down in the national jersey and a club rugby side that couldn’t pay you and went broke?
titans are more well known then reds and tahs players now too

That's what I always say but people complain about Chooks cause they are a posh club. I think the new stadium attract more people and that's the reason why Tahs got a decent 12k average crowd in a dreadful season

He can comment on his new career. I don’t see why it’s a problem.
His club just folded, wallabies were a mess. I think he handled himself fine.
Rugby is in a very bad spot. See if the upcoming events are permanent fixes along with new structure or sugar hits.
The players hopefully go to super clubs that need them most. Ideally tags, reds, force and Brumbies are all net winners and better next year as a result.
