    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

So NZ rejected an option that would have helped the RA address the fundamental issue facing Australian rugby, a greater domestic presence. Yet is now peeved that less than a year later, that fundamental issue is rearing its ugly head, and around in circles we go again.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

You are right, competitiveness is an issue. It has been one since inception of the competition, and is really no closer to being solved 25 years later. NZ says simply drop to 3 teams and you will then instantly be competitive, yet that just introduces the the issue of how to grow the game, but...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

I think the issue with this is. This has always been the preferred set up for NZ rugby. Whatever is not working for Australia, is not affecting NZ, so any possible change is met with scepticism, but Super rugby has not had a decent format for 20 years now. so the constant need for change is ever...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

The problem is more long term regards the financial viablity of the game here, the Drua & Pacifika may be great feel good factors but they don't bring any financial security to the competition. Aus rugby may be able to coast along with a Lions tour and World cup paying the bills but any excess...

    Australian Rugby / RA

Nothing like a ringing endorsement from the National Coach, The problem the game has here moving forward is where are they going to get the players from. With ever increasing loss of players to overseas cash especially mid-tier players, how do you sustain 5 teams to that level. Realistically...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

"We need to play the Kiwis to get better, as simple as that" ffs that line gets trotted out every week. We have been playing NZ teams on a weekly/Fortnigtly basis for over 25 years now, we also play the All Blacks 3-4 times a year as well. Fuck man we should be the worlds best by now. It is...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Bloody Hell the game couldn't look anymore outwards, we've had 21 years of Super Rugby and at one stage the competition involved five continents, and about 50 different time zones. What part of that was speaking sense.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

The issue is the game has been aiming high since the start of Super rugby, remember it was supposed to take over the world. The problem you have by this approach is your cost base has to support those aims. Show me the money. The Lions tour, World cup etc, yes they will bring in the money and...

    Australian Rugby / RA

I took the kids to the Drua/Rebels game at Sunshine Coast Stadium, which was a pretty late ground transfer, was probably 1500/1800 there which cconsidering was not to bad. Tickets were $20 adults and kids free so good value. Felt sorry for the sole Rebels supporters surrounded by a 100 rather...

Part of that may be learned behaviour though, for 20 years now to view rugby has required a Fox sports subscription so for many rugby supporters, a subscripton based following was normal. Its definately a big plus but the hard part, as has always been is how do you grow that number.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

And it highlights the complete folly of Rugby Unions approach here over the last 20 years, Every problem has always been solved by some possibilty of growth in some far off market, a game of rugby is played in country Z and bingo the next gravy train is discovered. Up here in QLD the AFL now...

You would presume the A league would be looking shaky as well then.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

This is part of the dilemma of rugby's set up here, surely the Super clubs should fund a development set up below them, because they are the entities that benefit from it. In football the reserve & youth teams are all funded by the clubs themselves, they become part of the business model. Yet...

    Super Rugby 2022

But in fairness RTS (Roger Tuivasa-Sheck) would have been in the top bracket of paid NRL players, This is a start up salary, but what is his potential pay packet if he makes the All Blacks.

    Super Rugby 2022

No Hamish and his crew aren't wrong, its just that after 20 years of Super (world domination) rugby) they're fucking broke.

    Super Rugby 2022

A domestic competition is not just playing ourselves though, This narrative that somehow we're retreating to some king of North Korean euotopia by playing a domestic competition. The Wallabies will still be playing upto 15 Tests a year (and thats another issue), there will always be crossover...

    Super Rugby 2022

You would think they must be looking at two 6 team competitions with the Drua in Aus & Pacifika in NZ that gives them 10 rounds with hopefully some crossover games after in May/June if conditions improve. Now who would have thought a domestic competition

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Yep mine are 11 & 12 don't watch commercail TV full stop. Its all you tube/Tik Tok, Netflix, Iphones. Even as parents we barely watch TV, maybe the news, I think streaming has pretty much become the norm. We are looking at dumping Foxtel next month, mainly due to the hassle of switching over to...
