    Where to for Super Rugby?

Super Rugby Trans-Tasman 2021 Paul Cully: Rugby Australia and New Zealand Rugby must go their own way (smh.com.au) A really good article from Paul Cully in the SMH

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Yep, but all the usual suspects are now all coming out and predicting doom & gloom if we are not involved in a full TT, apparently all our issues are now due to not playing NZ enough last year, and we will only ever get better if we play NZ teams every weekend.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

But part of that propaganda push is coming from over here, with lots of articles blaming the just finished AU comp as the reason we are not competitive with the NZ teams, pushing the old living in isolation shit and living under a doona crap. So yeah add a couple of island teams and NZ in a TT...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

“I think there would be an appetite for it, particularly with the way the season is structured,” Deans said. “You’d have a domestic competition concluded and a domestic champion, or ranking if you like. And then you go across border, so your support base would follow that with interest." Now...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Geoff Parkes is about the most ardent advocate for TT/Super rugby that exists, he has spent about the last decade advocating for world Super rugby and now its a TT comp with total forecasts of doom and gloom if we don't play the kiwis every single week of the year. Every article he writes has...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

And as pointed out, it is becoming a commercial reality. Cully's angle of the Washington generals is pretty apt, the game won't survive with a bunch of expat Kiwis doing an annual pilgrimage to watch there old team.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Paul Cully: Is Super Rugby Trans-Tasman finished before it started? (smh.com.au) "Woe betide the rugby boss who ignores what the supporters want. The high performance arm of Rugby Australia might like the clashes against New Zealand opposition, but will fans lured back by Super Rugby AU stick...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Would be nice hifflepiff, but geez there's a lot of ifs in that set-up. (a) How do you make a short season financial (b) What do you do with the other 5 teams who don't make the cut. (c) Yes, good point (d) Not sure how that works, its a 9 team comp. the payoff is being in the top 3 I like...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

The other problem you have is you pretty much throw any business model for the two bottom franchises out the window.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

The problem is with equal teams Aus is simply not competitive against NZ, we simply don't have enough depth, so a TT just continues with the cycle of not being competitive which destroys any chance of increasing popularity. The counter argument from NZ is to go back to 3 teams to be competitive...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

No, You get a domestic winner and a TT/Champions league winner each year, what part of that is everyone gets a prize. What we're proposing is a way out of the whole unholy mess that everyone gets a prize got us into.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Option 1) is by far the best moving forward from an Australian prospective, IMO. I would presume then that you would add a pacific team to each country which also makes sense Drua (aus) Pacifika (nz) It would also make sense to have the domestic component first, this allows for build up of a...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Well we have 5 teams already, if you add the Drua to Sydney it is 6 teams. You can start a two round domestic competition, with a 5/10 year plan for 8 teams. Look at champions league style comps with the Kiwis & Japan to placate the boredom brigade and earn a few extra bucks while your at it...

2 games and 26 tries, not sure we should be judging anything after last night. But it was entertaining.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I am generally curious, how a Super AU into a TT is any less viable long term than a full TT comp, what are the financials' behind a full TT being more viable, where does that money come from. Because with a full TT you are guaranteed limited growth in the Australian market, so is it NZ money...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

No, without Super Rugby the game here would have pursued a club based domestic competition. Right now we would probably have 8-10 teams, and I would argue a much healthier grassroots base. Yes we got those teams but we could have got so much more by choosing something 90% of Australians...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I think the counter argument to that is we've been living off short term revenue hits for 20 years now. The thing is can the game survive the structural damage done to it by the sacrifices of another short term financial hit that we always have to have.
