SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) 2023 General Chat

For years I could never put my finger on why exactly the game or Super rugby in particular is such a bloody mess, pretty much a university course on how not to run a sporting competition. I've advocated since day one from an Aus perspective for a domestic product only to be shouted down...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

"If Super Rugby had to stand on it's own two feet we'd all forget about it tomorrow." and that is the crux of the issue. Super Rugby has never had two stand on its own two feet, this has essentially rendered the competition un-competitive when competing against rival codes which have improved...

SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) 2023 General Chat

No, thats exactly what we shouldn't be doing. The whole message your giving your fan base is the only game worth watching is the Wallabies and then wonder why know one is turning up to Super Rugby. Brisbane is a great idea, and make it against a nz team that the Reds have a home game against...

SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) 2023 General Chat

Great Idea, Make it a permanant fixture in Brisbane, play one of the leading NZ teams, milk the pre game entertainment. Make it about the ANZACS. Do tickek deals to get a crowd, yeah start the game at 1pm so your not clashing. ffs just do something to show the game is not just about the...

SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) 2023 General Chat

I don't think you can find a better example of the backward thinking that runs rugby union here, I noted on another forum the author was relieved rugby did not resort to Anzac day celebrations. Regardless of the hyprocricy you are left thinking that every soldier left these shores with a little...

SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) 2023 General Chat

Its a bit of a long bow, but you contrast how the dolphins were added to the NRL to how the Drua & Pacifika were set up. I find it very strange how for 20 years we were told by Super Rugby a Pacific option was not viable, yet two teams then appeared magically. The issue they have is moving...

Another close round of games this weekend, and once again Rugby Union maximising the ANZAC weekend.

    Australian Rugby / RA

Thats the problem with the game here, there are always plans for things to improve and this will be addressed, but nothing ever changes, ffs its 2023 iv'e seen Friday night chook raffles run more professionally.

SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) 2023 General Chat

The problem we have with this is the Wallabies & All Balcks play upto 15 Tests a year, essentially half the year is dedicated to Test rugby. But you do hit on the biggest hindrance to solving the issue of relevant domestic content, how do you schedule genuine domestic & Test rugby that allows...

SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) 2023 General Chat

Well if that is how the TV exec's & RA view the game then we might as well stick up the Surrender Sign. The big money may ultimately be Test rugby but without a supporter base you eventually lose that viewng audience. Which is exactly what has happened since the start of Super Rugby, ffs one...

SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) 2023 General Chat

It seems pretty clear the powers at Rugby Australia didn’t look at the ‘health’ and engagement of the Super Rugby Pacific comp as the main reason for going at it long term, it more about the Wallabies and trying to keep up with the NZ sides. And that in a nutshell has been the issue with Rugby...

    Australian Rugby / RA

It also gives a lot of the people a leave pass by making these wide ranging statements, they are in a way absolving themselves of any blame or responsibilty "sort of I told you so" The worrying part of his statement though is the feeling within his group of associates that are frustrated as...

SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) 2023 General Chat

And everyone will be running out to buy the membership packs knowing there's a good chance half the team will be rested or on a sabbatical when they go to watch!!! it would be interesting to see what modelling the RA did absolutely none of their fan base knew about it. I could have done a bit of...

SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) 2023 General Chat

Was there ever any doubt this was gonna happen, their pretty much broke. The domestic bandwagon left town years ago. They've kicked the can down the road till 2030 with Lions & World Cup, Super rugby will be tossed around like a mdiget in a nightclub and come 2030 the same fundamental issues...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

And enough relevant content, with Super Pacific you still only have 5 teams in your own marketplace. So you only have 7/8 games in each market, it is ridiculous to think that that rugby will recover in NSW when you don't have a vehicle to drive that recovery.

    NZ Domestic Rugby 2022

What a game, coming from an old Wellington supporter, really enjoyed that totally deserved the win. and quite frankly the NPC is the most enjoyabe rugby to watch these days.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Yes, but in your biggest markets you need a presence every week. So for Rugby in NSW & QLD it has suffered just as much by lack of content. Its pretty much the thinking of the Dolphins in the NRL, having a game every weekend in Brisbane. Union has really suffered from lack of relevant content...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

I'm a 100% with you half, but what does the reality of a domestic competition look like. For all of McLennans grandiose statements, there seems little if any inkling of how it would be done. We essentially have 5 domestic Rugby teams, at a minimum you would need 8 to start, maybe you could...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

My kids go to a large QLD secondary school 3000 kids, they have AFL & NRL as a full subject option for kids for the winter term Girls & Boys. Rugby Union is not even an option, they try to put a team out each year but apparantly its very much a hit & miss.
