Australian Schoolboys & National Championships 2018

I think the 3rd place play off could be more interesting than the final. Qld 1 have a better set of individuals on paper but ACT play best as a team. ACT played well against NSW1 quickly aligning in defence and making it hard to break through. It will be a real contest tomorrow. Qld 1...

They will need to be strong in the set piece Rich. Queensland have a 133kg prop called Zane Nongorr who will need to be contained.

I think some Joeys players have been overlooked because they play so unselfishly and cohesively as a team. Harder to stand out in a team based environment. The Joeys 2nd row who came on in the 1st XV game yesterday had a couple of great charges and acquitted himself well.

I think Zylstra the Scots hooker was unlucky not to get selected in the higher teams. An outstanding work rate and tackle count every week. Scored a couple of tries against Newington on Saturday. A key member of a front row 3 that has seen off all sides to date this season.

Have to disagree HeresToRugby. Rugby always been a team sport. The best 15 individuals don't necessarily constitute the best team. Some players more adaptable than others. Preparation time for the GPS/CAS clash is minimal. Combinations make life a lot easier for the coach and players. Provides...

I do have us as favourites. GPS should be better than last year. CAS not quite so strong. But we were favourites last year...... From the years of GPS/ CAS games I have seen, the CAS sides are usually drawn from fewer schools allowing combinations to be maintained. GPS teams in recent years have...

Hmmmm.......not sure that inspires confidence Rich.......those 6 boys from last years 1st team went down 26-0. We underestimate CAS at our peril.

Good selections O.J. that have been vindicated by this weekends results. What would be really useful is for both Strang and Savala to be chosen as a unit. They both deserve a place in their own right. Tremendous value in established combinations in a composite side such as the GPS team. Don't...

Yes quite possibly. The only GPS comparison I have seen though was the 32-7 loss to Kings on May 12th. If they have improved from there they will certainly be in the mix. My order based on what I see of pre season form though would be: 1. Scots - range of possible positions 1 to 2 2. Kings -...

From a Scots perspective I think the forward pack is better than last year but the backs have yet to settle and prove themselves to be as good as last year. In the forwards 2 of Scots best were missing yesterday - Jeremy Williams and Ben Robson. Jeremy was one of GPS's standout forwards last...

Congratulations to Auggies, a well deserved victory. They came out of the blocks firing. Some tough uncompromising forwards and highly talented backs. Auggies played smart rugby dictating the pace and style of the game Scots never really settled and were their own worst enemy with numerous...

Disagree WLF. Rich e is as always being diplomatic. Harris is a more complete player. He is fitter, faster and just as strong. Moretti is an impact player that has been made to look great by weaker opposition. When faced with a sterner defence he becomes far less potent. Waverley were beaten in...

    CAS 2018

Stannies are a good side SonnyDill. Their forwards didn't give an inch, it was a bruising encounter. They played with real passion and pride. Particularly impressive was Stannies big second rower who charged hard at Scots all day. Scots just had the edge on fitness and creativity which secured...

    CAS 2018

The one observation I would add WLF is that Scots played the game at a pace that unsettled Waverley. They moved the large Waverley pack around the pitch at a pace they weren't used to. Quick recycling of the ball through the pod system makes it a fast and furious game. Waverley lacked a bit of...

Did anyone go the St Augustines vs Newington game that can post a bit of info on the game? From the result it looks like it was a close game.

A convincing win for Scots at Bellevue. Waverley outclassed. Scots too strong, too fit and too fast. Was looking forward to seeing Moretti but he had a quiet game. He's a big unit but found it hard to make headway against Scots highly organised defence. Looks better suited to League, disappeared...

    CAS 2018

Pods do generate opportunities close to the line but Scots are prepared to run the ball from anywhere. Take a look at their final try on Saturday which started from close to their own line. If I have any criticism of Scots current game it is the box kick. Perfected in the Northern hemisphere we...
