What is ridiculous about saying a player who hasn't got the kicking game required of a No 10, can't defend in his own channel and is lacking in ability to set up backline play doesn't have the skills to play as a conventional No 10?

There is no guarantee that CLL will be better either, but he certainly does warrant a couple of chances as he was the best performing No 10 in Super rugby (Aussie style) this year. I would also argue it is a bit early to discard To'omua from consideration too. He has had one or two opportunities...

    Aussie Player Exodus

Looking for a No 7 who competes first and foremost for the ball at the breakdown, I have to say I am now wanting to see Liam Wright given a go at 7. No need for MH to camp out in the backline to cover for defensive frailties, so no need for him in the 23 unless the starting 7 is injured. But...

Derpus, in my view Foley is quite a good rugby player, but not a world class No 10. All of his good plays last weekend came about when he was playing like or on the wing. His try was vintage winger backing up the mid field line break while his kick assistfor the non-try by DHP was entirely play...

Yep, agree on the other specialist winger.

TRC Round 2: Australia vs Argentina @ Brisbane - Saturday 27 July 2019

LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) had the pace to outrun a Saffa winger over about 30m to the tryline. Given that play hadn't been stopped by the whistle, I assume the winger was trying his guts out to run him down, but made little or no headway. So much for his perceived lack of pace.

Perhaps it indicates that Lealiifano is able to unlock Kuridrani better than Foley is able.

TRC Round 2: Australia vs Argentina @ Brisbane - Saturday 27 July 2019

I think Foley could give all of our wingers a lesson in backing up the man with the ball. His try was classic winger backing up the break. It had little if anything to do with him playing at No 10. Beale's offload was sublime and made the try.

TRC Round 2: Australia vs Argentina @ Brisbane - Saturday 27 July 2019

There certainly is, or should be, a bit of experimentation going on, but that doesn't necessarily mean man against man for a particular spot, eg No 9. It could well be experimentation of combinations at 9/10. Personally, I would prefer to see White at 9 with Lealiifano at 10 for this game. Genia...

    Wallabies 2019 Thread

Precisely. On top of being the most unsuccessful coach the Wallabies have ever had, he is also the most unsettling and divisive from a fans point of view ever. If, as Adam84 says above "Be unsuccessful, lose job" then by any measure he should have lost his job three or four years ago, or at...

I absolutely agree on Hooper. He is not, or does not play as, a No 7. The absence of a pilferer putting pressure on opposition ball was instrumental in the Saffas having so much possession in the second half. That is the No 7's primary task in my view. Hooper failed, no argument.

Would you think that the YC could have been better managed had a winger been taken off? It was certainly a mistake to take Naisarani off, imo.

Will stood motionless at the back of a ruck watching a Saffa come through and pick up the loose ball. He has no heart. Time for him to go altogether.

UTG< I'd agree but we had more ball in the first half than the Saffas, I believe, and he did next to nothing other than get his runners smashed.

    Wallabies 2019 Thread

I raised this as a concern when he signed his latest contract extension. Have to say very few others even saw it as a possibility, declaring Cheika's exit after the RWC as a done deal no matter the result. It pains me to say it, but I cannot see the Wallabies lifting the Cup this year, so it...

Putting about 2 minutes thought into it, I'd have both Qld locks and Darcy Swain before any of the other locks mentioned; Tyrel Lomax at THP; Andrew Deegan at No 10, and any two others over English and Leyds on the wings.

TRC Round 1: South Africa v Australia, Sunday 21 July 1:05am AEST

I can accept the notion that Dempsey provides most cover for all back three spots, but I am a little perplexed by the many expressions of his great form for the Wallabies. It is my recollection that he won MOTM in his first test match, but also my impression that he didn't play to that level in...
