FAO: QLDers - let's make Ballymore an icon!

Lindo, Lang Park, or Suncorp Stadium as it's now known, is a fantastic venue, but it really needs to be at more than half full to get atmosphere. When it is full there is no better place to watch the rugby but that is never the case for Reds matches. Give me Ballymore anyday, but that won't...

Isn't the squad only 32 strong at the moment? Maybe they won't get the last person and are using some of the available funds to pay extra for Braid?

    S14 re-format

Good post Scotty, agree with all of that. The professional season is far too short and increasing opportunity and player base through having more teams might be ugly in the short term but of longer term benefit.

    Western Force 2009

Excellent backline, but, and I will probably be shouted down for saying this, the weakness may be O'Connor. Supreme talent no doubt, but he is still only 18 and hasn't had sustained exposure in the big time. I'm imagining that the 10-12 channel will get a lot of attention defensively.

Braid would be an excellent pick up.

For Lee and others interested, a good wrap of the 16's tournament: http://www.15manrugby.com/2008/U_16_2008/DAY%203%2016s.htm I didn't make it out for the final day but on the Wednesday couldn't help but notice the number of 'rugby official' types there. The QRU looks to be making a concerted...

    Brumbies 2009

Don't know how you could leave Fainifo out of the starting 15? He was one of their more consistent performers in 2008. I think To'omua will challenge Lealifano this year at some stage.

I see OZ schools belted a side from Wairarapa Bush (?) and Swanepoel captained the side and scored a brace. Obviously on his way back and assume he will be part of the Reds Academy setup next year. Very good halfback.

Charlie Fetoia may be another to come under consideration if he can nail down a starting spot (possible longer term replacement for Morgs?). He captained the Qld side against Auckland a few months back.

Australian Schoolboys & National Championships 2008

Lee, Went out and had a look yesterday. When I turned up for the Sydney Juniors v Qld Red match, Juniors were up 13-0, but Qld dominated for the whole time I was there. Juniors had a handy 12, Adrian ha'anga I think, and another monster polynesian boy on the wing, who looked good but was under...

Given his experience, I wonder whether Hynes might get first crack at fullback, with Vaalu taking his wing spot. I also recall Latham giving Vaalu the thumbs up as a possible fullback?

    Junior Waratahs squad for Fiji

Should learn to read shouldn't I. :-[Don't know anything about Inman, but my comments on LaVin stand. I've been surprised that he hasn't kicked on.

    Queensland Reds 2009

I agree with others that Qld is still in a re-building phase and have the right coach in Mooney, doing that job. I've said for a while now that 2010 will be the watershed year. As with all Reds fans, I'm hoping for a finish in the top half of the ladder next year (top four would be like winning...

    Junior Waratahs squad for Fiji

Lavin would only be about 22 wouldn't he? Exceptional player at schools level, so it's good to see he is getting a chance on this tour.

Pick your Wallaby team for EOYT

Just reading through the ' baggsying' comments about O'Connor and Cooper. Doesn't the fact that O'Connor played Sevens for OZ earlier this year rule out his eligibility for other nations, or is it just repping in the 15 a side game that triggers eligibility rules? Regardless, if it is about...

Australian Schoolboys & National Championships 2008

I think the short answer is that the talent identified players get an Academy gig as the first step towards S14 and beyond. These players get a bit of pin money and focused coaching etc..The rest just take their chances in Grade rugby, first with Colts, then hopefully Prems.. I did notice...

Wallabies v All Blacks III in Brisvegas

Having watched the game live as well Scotty I would say those comments are pretty much on the money. Yes the reffing was crap and some guys had bad nights, but it was a great contest and spectacle. As others have said, with Barnes, Vickerman and Burgess out it was always going to be tough, so...
