    Shute Shield 2017

What's the difference between Nick Phipps and Reece Hodge? Both played for dominant Sydney clubs and actually Phipps came from 'further off the pathway' than Hodge did.

    Round 7: Hurricanes v Waratahs - Friday 5:30pm

I think the best indication of the impact that Hooper makes is the fact that his team mates always seem to pick him as their best player internally- hence his consecutive John Eales medals- he's clearly a player others enjoy playing with and value.

Auckland Blues To Infinity and Beyond

Hey Dismal, WHat's the deal with Rene Ranger at the moment?

    Waratahs 2017

There certainly is a lack of penetration in the backline at the moment. Apart from Folau and Taqele which players would geuinely worry the other team if they were marking them? I'm not sure that someone like Kellaway who was one of our top juniors in years will ever be breaking tackles regularly.

    Round 6: Waratahs v Crusaders - Sunday 2 April 2017 4pm

Apart from one cut out pass to Clark that led to Taqele's try, he as pretty unimpressive in my opinion.

    Round 6: Waratahs v Crusaders - Sunday 2 April 2017 4pm

Really? Mack Mason looked straight out of the Jake McIntyre, Andrew Deegan and Hegarty- mould of fly halves that Australia seems to love at the moment. They all play deep and lateral with minimal running threat and are relatively unathletic. Their major positive is they can kick quite well. I...

    The Wallabies Thread

I think 12 would be the best position for Khunt for Wallabies, unmatched aggression in defence similiar to To'omua and more attacking threat- I think he would offer more than Hodge.

    Waratahs 2017

I agree re Gordon, I thought for his debut game he was safe and will only imrpove. Additionally I didn't cringe everytime he went for the boxkixk (a la Phipps)

    Waratahs 2017

This might be slightly controversial but having read that Lima Sopoaga's brother has just joined the Highlanders squad after being one of the better NRC players, wouldn't the Waratahs have been much better served signing him or Tyrone Viliga than a Michael Wells or Brad Wilkin based ability?

    Waratahs 2017

Agree he was probably signed due to his CV but I think his upside is greater than Clark's. Honestly he's already probably more deserving of a starting wing position than Robinson, even with existing defensive frailties (which he has improved).

    Waratahs 2017

Quite happy with the team though do believe we need one pure second row to complement the makeshift Mumm and limited Skelton. I'm also not sure why Clark is worthy of a full contract position over Harry Jones, someone who has impressed in the 15 a side game in both Shute Shield and NRC, while...

Ireland v Australia, Saturday 26 November

Speight hasn't looked like breaking a tackle this entire tour and his hesitation in defence is alarming. I think Naivalu will offer a lot more around the park with a slightly lower workrate Morahan would similiarly offer more with ball in hand with a kicking game but I'm slightly worried about...

    Shute Shield 2016

That's a bit harsh on Bill- not only is he regularly at Shute Shield games, he has son who plays grade at Easts, so I'm pretty sure he does have a good appreciation of the club game. He also probably has a bit of oversight of the overall health of rugby that you don't see..

    Rugby 7s general chat

You do realise that Bernard Foley and Nick Phipps were essentially our best players when they played 7s and basically lead to their Super rugby contracts.. (Also the reply function doesn't seem to work- do you need to use Chrome as a browser?)

    Waratahs 2016

Wait I forgot the great Sosene Anesi!

    Waratahs 2016

I don't think we know if it's a bet that has been won or lost yet though. At the moment, Guildford is not showing any more than we couldn't have got a local talented winger (Harry Jones) with less risk. People have been defending him with his 'work- rate' but he is honestly making minimal...

    Shute Shield 2016

There's also the issue that some players perform better at a lighter weight whether that be due to increased mobility or injury reduction- Rob Horne is an example of this.

    Waratahs v Rebels RD 6

It was sarcasm but I'm guessing a few of your recommendations are Manly- affiliated no doubt. In all seriousness Horwitz was one of the standout players in Shute Shield and even NRC (moreso than the lauded Kellaway) so he deserves his opportunity but I'm not sure if he has the attributes to be...

Let's just throw Peter Gilmore in at 12..

Would any of those players be from Manly Dave?
