    Shute Shield 2013

Hugh, I think you're spot on about the re-building. I reckon half the players in the first grade trial on Saturday were new to the club this year. Great to see Seilala Lam back on the paddock and (apparently) getting through without injury. Richard Aho and the "veteran" Tim Wright both had...

    Shute Shield 2013

1st grade Norths 24 (4 tries) beat Randwick 19 (3 tries): Daruda's going to be a good acquisition for Norths! 2nd grade Randwick 33 (5 tries) beat Norths 0

I don't know. The old site was maintained by a volunteer ie mother of an ex-player. Not sure who did the re-design.

I think it only went live yesterday so there are a few bugs!

At the risk of being accused of bias, I have to say the new Wicks web site looks pretty bloody good!

    Shute Shield 2013

Anyone have any thoughts on a yearly promotion and relegation system between Shute Shield and Subbies? (It might give the likes of Balmain a chance to eventually show what they can offer!)

    Shute Shield 2013

I agree, there's plenty of room for rorting the system. Souths in the play offs last year (and other clubs have done the same thing) ran on a low point front rower to stay below the points ceiling and then replaced him with the player they wanted to name in the starting line up. The were able to...

    Shute Shield 2013

I'm sure you'll be proved correct, but it must be getting harder each year. At the start of last year they had several players who had just signed S15 contracts so didn't attract the points and of course they also get discounts for years of service. It will be interesting to see what sort of...

Points system for 2013 attached. Not sure if there's any changes from last year.

Agree with you completely about full home and away. I travel to away games as well as home to follow my team whenever possible and watch all 4 grades. I love the relaxed friendly atmosphere and the interaction between supporters and rival players. Some of the 3T models that are being proposed...

    Shute Shield 2013

For the record: (1) I don't underestimate the interest in a third tier comp...I'm just stating that none of the suggestions offered so far interest me (2) My interest and love for club rugby has nothing to do with my club's success...if it did I'd have lost interest years ago (3) Re the...

    Shute Shield 2013 Transfers

I suspect he would have been trialling with one of the Aussis S15 teams this year if he hadn't spent the whole of last year and significant parts of the previous year out injured. He really needs to spend time on the paddock.

    Shute Shield 2013

I'll stand up and be counted and state "I don't give a stuff about whether we have a 3rd tier or not" and, as I've said on previous posts, I believe we are deluding ourselves if we think we can emulate the 3rd tier comps which exist in NZ and RSA. I care about the ongoing existence and...

    Shute Shield 2013 Transfers

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm almost certain that ACT Rugby actually allocated the Brumbies contract players to the clubs ie they were all told which clubs they were to play for. This was to try to direct the available talent to where it was needed so there was a more even competition. Isn't...

    Shute Shield 2013

Surely all this talk of a university based 3rd tier and academy / super B tier will only result in a spreading of the available talent and other resources (esp money) very thinly across multiple competitions. Club rugby is not going away. In spite of what the ARU might want to happen as I keep...

    Shute Shield 2013

Good point RC! Just demonstrates that the ARU has no interest in club rugby other than providing players to the Wallabies and Super Rugby. My point (lost on the ARU) is that club rugby exists so people can play rugby.....duh! If they happen to be good enough to get a professional contract...

    Shute Shield 2013

Interesting article, but how many more times is the ARU going to spend money on a study which concludes that club rugby is doing it tough financially and yet not do anything about it other than suggest yet another restructure? Club rugby is a players game and (fortunately) it also provides...

    Shute Shield 2013

Both would be good! In the past the canteen and BBQ proceeds have gone to the junior clubs (and they staff them too) who take turns at the home games, hopefully that's still the case this year.

    Shute Shield 2013

Hugh, it would appear that the reverse is true as far the Wicks are concerned. Apparently the Rugby Club has been bailing out the licenced club for several years and in fact the Rugby Club is one of the licenced club's biggest creditors.
