    Shute Shield 2013

PS: Papworth's over reaction (does he have some involvement with the Woodies? ;)) made it seem worse than it was.

    Shute Shield 2013

I didn't get a great view of it but he was provoked. Over reaction, sure, but I doubt Gower expected the outcome that occurred ie player knocked out. Surely we have to accept that players will react in these circumstances. He deserves to be suspended but there is some mitigation.

Some bloke called Cyril Towers went to Waverley College and he could play (and coach) a bit!

Thanks Hugh and Sid, Sid's version was close to what I thought I saw, but in any case the Wicks scrum fell in a heap one way or another. Turning point of the game perhaps as the Wicks had showed signs of a fight back early in the second half. No question the better side won though.

Can anyone confirm whether Easts final try last Thursday (in the NE corner) was a tight head pushover? I was sitting a long way away and it looked to me like Randwick won the scrum but then had the ball taken from the half or he dropped it. Was anyone in a better position to confirm what...

I'd suggest Coach Kelly wants to give the young guys with potential time to develop but that approach will become more difficult to sustain as the losses mount up, especially given the success of the 2nd grade. Boileau will probably end up a better player than Helliwell and Helliwell was the 1st...

    Colts 2013

Early days but the Wicks leading Colts 1sts table: long time since that's happened!

I think the other try scorers were Halangahu for Wicks and Tom Kolo for Easts (replacement), but not certain.

Asa is seriously fast for a front rower. He followed up a kick against West Harbour and outpaced most of both teams.

I couldn't add anything to the very good match reports above. The Wicks turned over far too much ball on 1st and 2nd phase to be competitive with a very patient and composed opposition. A fairly tame game compared to some of the fire and brimstone these teams have turned on in the past. I...

    Shute Shield 2013

A fair summation of the game. The Wicks must have dropped the ball of through a forward pass on the 1st or 2nd phase at least 15 times. Can't win matches against patient and composed opposition doing that. I thought the yellow card given to Tim Wright was very harsh, but I doubt it impacted the...

    MANLY 2013

Robbie Deans had the same problem! I suspect Jake White will be the next Wallabies coach if he continues to have success with the Brumbies which will make it even more frustrating for the local guys. BTW, Randwick pushed hard to get Tim Lane this year but he wanted a full time role, or so the...

Should be a cracker! The Woodies defence against the Wicks last week was unbelievable. Double brick walls would have been easier to get through.

I'm sure the little white haired man will be firing them up tomorrow too if it's who I think you mean!

Get down to Coogee tomorrow as the Wicks v Easts is always one of the best games of the year with the traditional rivalry between the 2 teams ensuring that no quarter will be asked or given across all grades. Even if you don't support either team it's worth attending. And the playing of the Last...

    Shute Shield 2013

Unfortunately the Roosters are playing tomorrow as well! Wicks v Easts is always one of the best games of the year with the traditional rivalry between the 2 teams ensuring that no quarter will be asked or given across all grades. Even if you don't support either team it's worth attending. And...

Assuming they do recover from their injuries I would expect coach Kelly to play both of them in grade at some stage as he's shown already that he's prepared to give the young guys a go in grade. Especially before the season hots up with the return of the S15 players.

At least Brogan can study while he recovers as he was one of the UNSW scholarship winners!

Unfortunately cards are still being played very close to the chest down Coogee way so I can't help you. I can only advise that Horwitz's injury is "long term", whatever that means.
