    Shute Shield 2013

The meeting was on Sunday. The merger with Marrickville RSL fell through several weeks ago. There are a few more options awaiting outcomes, however, they don't sound very promising. Am I right is saying that only Souths, Norths and Easts now have their own licenced clubs ie not counting...

    Shute Shield 2012

I agree Knuckles: top 5 in a 12 team comp is plenty. But let's also get back to 2 full home and away rounds. PS: Just because the dinosaurs died out doesn't mean that didn't know how to run a rugby comp!

    Shute Shield 2012

Here we go again! Souths team adds up to 108 player points so (unless my maths have failed me) this won't be the run on team.

I'd have to go for Steve Walsh for best referee even though he didn't do many Shute Shield games. I like the way he communicates with the players.

    Shute Shield 2012

I agree! Like Berrick Barnes for the Wallabies his first instinct is to kick the ball and Uni killed Norths with their counter attacks last week. I also doubt he played enough games this year to win. With the comparative talent at their disposal and how the teams performed last year I'd have...

    Sydney Shake Up

Thanks WCRugger for pointing that out; I realised this later after re-reading the article. My first response was a bit emotional! However, I think that creates the same problem as the ARC (is that what it was called?) ie no tribal association with the teams so no bums on seats and difficulty...

The proposed "merger" between Randwick and Marrickville RSL is not going to proceed. The club is finally going to tell the members WTF is going on: NOTICE TO MEMBERS MEMBERS INFORAMTION MEETING SUNDAY 23RD SEPTEMBER 2012 12PM AT THE CLUB Members are invited to a meeting with The Board of the...

    Shute Shield 2012

See below: 7.3.2.2 In the Finals series if Clubs have consecutive grades playing in the same weekend and choose to play fresh reserves, these players will count towards the teams points cap. So the teams without "consecutive grades" still playing have an advantage!

Souths have now moved Metcher to the bench and Heather is named in the starting line up again! Any bets on how many minutes he plays before Metcher comes on?

    Shute Shield 2012

I see Souths have selected Rob Horne in the centre and moved Nick Cummins to the wing at the expense of Ben Connolly. With Tim Metcher named in the front row instead of Marcus Heather that gives them 109 player points, as Late Starter predicted earlier in this forum. Is anybody out there able...

Hi The Galah, I especially agree with your last 2 sentences!

    Shute Shield 2012

Hugh, yes I know Randwick have had a relationship with UNSW for many years, but as far as attracting sponsors is concerned it's not the same as it would be if UNSW had a team in the Shute Shield. Sydney Uni do a lot to build support for their rugby team (and other sporting teams) within the...

    Sydney Shake Up

Well said! What a crock of shit this proposal is. Who is going to cover the expenses of the Shute Shield teams who can't even afford a 22 game home-and-away competition? Are the likes of Penrith, Gordon, West Harbour etc going to be interested in a competition they have no chance of winning or...

    Shute Shield 2012

The Shute Shield clubs rely heavily on money from sponsors to stay afloat. Since clubs starting paying their players the annual budget has grown. However, the expansion of Super Rugby and the decision by the Brumbies and Reds to require their Shute Shield players to play with local clubs and not...

    Shute Shield 2012

Yeah, I agree with you. But I suspect there's some truth in the fact that clubs paying players is a major cause of the fact that many of the clubs are struggling financially. Anyone know whether club players in NZ get paid (I suspect not)?

    Shute Shield 2012

Yes, I agree. But I still also like the idea of having a points cap on the players registered by the club which may either be instead of the current cap or additional to it.
