    Shute Shield 2013

I was working in NZ for 6 months earlier this year and had some interesting discussions over there about the third tier concept. As we all know, rugby is by far the most popular winter football code in NZ and even allowing for the growth of soccer in South Africa it's also the most popular...

    Shute Shield 2013

It was "signed" by Poido and Bob Dwyer. Dwyer was quoted as being the president of the club....not sure what's happened to Anthony Bell (the accountant to the stars!). What's your point?

    Shute Shield 2013

The Randwick announcement (which has strangely disappeared from the website) quoted the reduction in funding from the ARU as a contributing factor in the decision.

I think they wanted him to align with an organisation which had AFL, league, soccer, rugby, hockey, badminton and swimming teams so he could expand his horizons in the future! Seriously though I agree with you totally.

Hate to be naysayer but I still prefer Shute Shield on Saturday afternoon!

The comittee was Hoiles, Gaffney, Freier and BEN Whitaker.

My understanding (from the rumour mill) is that Wade Kelly was not the first choice, in fact he was about #3. Anyone have any inside info?

    Whoops, sorry I meant Concord!

    Shute Shield 2013

We shouldn't overlook the fact that the growth of Super Rugby and the Tri Nations (now Rugby Championship) has had a major influence on the decline of the Shute Shield. If memory serves me correct, the 2000 Shute Shield GF was played at Homebush before a capacity crowd and it was a great game...

    Shute Shield 2013

Whilst I understand the thought process behind playing junior games I think you need to keep in mind that these are mind-blowingly boring for those adults who don't have any family link to the kids. I think it would be better to get back to playing Colts Firsts games as the curtain raiser to 1st...

    Shute Shield 2013

I've been away on leave with no Internet so I'm a bit out of date! Do we know who's coaching Gordon next year yet?

    Shute Shield 2013

I was under the impression (not sure why and I may be wrong) that the ARU had for some reason influenced the shorter season. I believe there were times in the past when the ABC didn't start its coverage until a few rounds into the comp due to other commitments so I agree completely that this...

What's the next step? All teams in the playoffs? This is getting stupider by the year!

    Shute Shield 2013

I'll go a step further and suggest that 6 team playoffs in a 12 team competition where at least 2-3 of the teams (last year) were not competitive is ridiculous. Let's get back to 2 full home-and-away rounds with 5 team playoffs.

    Shute Shield 2013

Gee....how exciting!!! Not sure I can bear the suspense until April. Is this still the Shute Shield we're talking about or have we branched out into something else?

    Shute Shield 2013

Brave predictions in November! I wouldn't be writing off either Randwick or Easts: their problems at the moment appear to be mainly with their licenced clubs. It's hard to see either Penrith or Gordon being serious play-off contenders, but with another season where S15 players will play very...

OK, you've sparked my interest. Why, because of the money or some other reason?

    Shute Shield 2013 Transfers

If it's the case that Harvey approached Warringah and not the other way round, then you'd have to ask the question how many other clubs would have knocked him back if he'd approached them....approximately none I'd reckon! Sure he's got his shortcomings and he may be mercenary, but he's a good...
