    Wallaby Squad Predictions 2010!

Davies is fast, but his defence is the worst of the lot. His would have to be a long way down the pecking order. I would expect to see all of those guys in a 30 man squad (Davies as a maybe). The big thing Beale and O'Conor have got is that they can play pretty much anywhere in the backline...

    The Finals

Whilst a home semi would be nice, I see no problem with going over to the Republic. It is mostly about mindset - get it right and travel/home/away doesn't matter. As soon as you start thinking about it being a long flight blah blah blah you are planting the seed for excuses and not taking...

Tahs vs Canes - Post Match Pissup

G&GR Waratahs Player of the Match (v Canes)

I'd love to go three for the forwards, two for the outside backs, and one for the inside backs. The other option would be giving two, two, one, one, but rules are rules. One thing that is nice is struggling to give out points because there were so many great performances. Anyway: 3. TPN...

    The Lions need to go

Ok, so the Reds were kak but aren't any more. The Bulls were kak but aren't any more. The Lions are currently kak. The Lions have some very good players. They clearly need a bit more of the traditional South African grunt and structure. If the current coach can't or won't do it, get someone...

Waratahs v Hurricanes, SFS - Revenge of the Dell

Thanks AussieDominance - answered my question before I asked it! How do you rate the latest propping options? oh, and Mitchell, Beale and Turner are all on fire at the right time. All of them pose serious threats to the opposition. Special mention to Barnes, Carter and Horne for the way they...

Waratahs v Hurricanes, SFS - Revenge of the Dell

Nice. Comprehensive victory there for the Tahs. The forwards stood up and the outside backs carved up. The scrum just about held together until all abr one of the props was injured - hopefully not all the injuries aren't too serious (who have they got left to play prop?). The rucking...

If the Brums can tighten up they can come back - the Crusaders are dining out on Brumbies mistakes

    Chiefs V Waratahs, Hamilton

Can you be cited for something the ref dealt with with a penalty in the match?

    Chiefs V Waratahs, Hamilton

Yeah it was shown a few times during the TV coverage. Based on what has earnt a yellow card so far this season, he could have been carded, and it would certainly have been a penalty - had any of the officials seen it. I'm just happy Mitchell is good to go against the Canes.

I have a feeling that... (Wallaby captain)..

I've got to agree about Waugh and Sharpe being the best candidates for captaincy in terms of experience and dealing with the ref with the right balance of forthrightness and politeness. Waugh is unlikely to be a starter for the Wallabies, so that would rule him out. If there was to be a change...

Waratahs v Hurricanes, SFS - Revenge of the Dell

Strength and aggression at the breakdown are important, but also finesse and control - often the team who clears out too well (and too quickly for the scrum half/support) finds the ball out in the open at the back of their ruck and pilferred by an alert opponent. The Waratah forwards need to...

    Brumbies Vs Crusaders. Chch.

Ioane is probably the most penetrative runner in the Reds team, and he often plays on the wing for them - why not AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) on the wing for the Brumbies? He isn't a big passer of the ball, but I am constantly amazed at the way he breaks tackles and gets over the tryline in tight and difficult...

Waratahs v Hurricanes, SFS - Revenge of the Dell

Tyson Keats is a great replacement - just a bit inexperienced. If the Tahs can get them on the back foot, it might then be an issue.

Waratahs v Hurricanes, SFS - Revenge of the Dell

Re: Waratahs v Hurricanes, SFS Is this an ancient custom that has somehow been modernised? I think scarring (with symbols rather than words) was traditional for some tribes. Is this information from Beale himself? KB (Kurtley Beale) wouldn't be the first young man, or rugby player, to have his name tattooed...

    Criticism of Elsom

I don't think Elsom has been widely criticised - maybe just on the occassions he has had a below average game (the Brumbies have every chance of making the finals now, but there were some dark days earlier in the season). My memory of the G&GR player of the match points is that he has featured...
