Rumour is they have signed the Du Plessus brothers and Butch James for next year.
That will help them no end.

So why do you talk kak then Boet? go to your first qoute.

you mean this one?

when you say "us" you mean NZ teams right?

Cause, historically, when the Reds have played South African teams we've won almost 2/3rds of the time.
because, as my stats say we have beaten SAF teams almost 2/3rds of the time we've played them.

ala 57.58%
Is that two thirds? :nta:

+ maybe Jean de Villiers & John Smit.

Look the Lions should start with their U20s. They played last year in the CC U19 final and have contracted a very strong group, having the most players in the SA WC U20 squad. Thats a good starter and one of them Jaco Taute will start in 12 this weekend, last year still in school.

Dick Muir is the Boks backline coach and knows to prepare young talent. A good CC and they'll be back in business next year.

I'll get some serious Lions supporters over here to explain the Lion situation.

Don't waste space in this forum, PB. We don't need any type of Lions supporter to tell us that the Lions are shit.
Boet ja, but there are supporters like GMan that lives in Bobbejaansberg and still support their team and go every weekend to go watch them, we got two current Lion S14 players dads on the Protea forum , if you think they cant add value here, go live in lululand. Much better to get their view about their matters then getting the views about their game from SA Expats that have blue blood and think they know everything about Lions rugby.

I know you dont want them here but nevermind. :nta:

Ok so now we need Lions supporters to come and tell us they suck. Bring e'm in. All seven of them.

What about "my Expat views" do you disagree with?

Ok, so the Reds were kak but aren't any more. The Bulls were kak but aren't any more. The Lions are currently kak.

The question is, can the Lions improve the way the Bulls did? The Lions have problems that the Bulls didn't have. So can they be fixed? Will the Lions be competitive, as in not in the bottom 3, within the next 10+ years?

Serious questions, because right now I can't see how the Lions can be competitive within that time frame.

The Lions have some very good players. They clearly need a bit more of the traditional South African grunt and structure. If the current coach can't or won't do it, get someone else. As for their internal problems - I'm not privvy to that, but would be interested to hear from someone who does.

No, they haven't won a game yet, but I don't think that is grounds for getting rid of them. There will always be a team in last position, this year it is the Lions.

Myself feel your chopping will do more damage to them, they keep on doing that and they'll do fine if they can start building for the future.

You labelled Muir, funnily you lot with the whiye collar Kiwis felt way back when Snor had success its due to Muir and the senior Bokke, Muir needs time with them and started only in January preparing them in fact he havent got his first XV going in round 1 and they fell in a bad xyxle since then, keep on chopping and changing. They need a bit like Jake White did with the Bokke when he started.

Anyway I am not a Lion supporter but I know very well they can do a lot better, starting with the CC.

Noddy, Oom PB didn't even need to cast for that one; you marched straight up out of the water and onto the coals, pausing only to bellow for lemon while cleaning yourself by way of hara-kiri. :lmao:

Note the cheeky-wink smiley. Deep breath. Smile sweetly and seraphically and enjoy someone else getting the shitty end of the log for a change. :thumb

John Mitchell nearly there.

http://www.perthnow.com.au/sport/so...ch-john-mitchell/story-e6frg1wu-1225867204257

JOHN Mitchell is in negotiations with the Lions, and the South African rugby franchise is pushing for the Western Force to release the coach from contract as soon as possible.

A top Lions source confirmed the Johannesburg-based Super 14 side had been quietly negotiating with Mitchell during the Force's three-week trip to South Africa.

Plans have been hatched to fire the incumbent coach, Dick Muir, who had failed to win a single Super 14 game going into the final round yesterday, with the team firmly anchored to the bottom of the ladder.

But firing Muir could be tricky, as he is in the first year of a three-year contract. The Lions have been looking at possible means - performance-related and other - to offload Muir.

The man they desperately want to replace him is Mitchell, whose previous high-profile job was coach of the All Blacks.

"We are expecting a coaching position to become available. We have a high regard for John, who has a magnificent track record, and would like him to fill that post," the Lions' source said.

In his fifth season of coaching the Force, Mitchell announced earlier this year that he would not be seeking a renewal of his contract next year.

If he wants to leave, the Force may be open to releasing him as his departure would free up funds to appoint a top-quality successor.

The Lions' source said the franchise was eager to negotiate with the Force.

Ideally they would like Mitchell to be appointed in time for the start of South Africa's domestic competition, the Currie Cup, next month.

"We are working through all available dynamics and will not hesitate to appoint him if we agree terms and the Force make him available," the Lions' source said.

Coach John Mitchell has dismissed rumours he is set to leave the Western Force to guide struggling South African team the Lions for the 2011 Super 15 rugby season.

Mitchell confirmed that he will coach the Force next season before stepping aside but revealed he is in talks with the Lions to take up a consultancy role for their domestic Currie Cup season, which runs from July to October.

The Johannesburg-based Lions failed to win a game in the 2010 Super 14 season and their coach Dick Muir is under the pump to keep his job after just one year at the franchise.

But Mitchell said he wouldn't even consider coaching a rival Super 14 franchise next season.

"I'm here right until the end of my contract so I'll be coaching the Western Force next year," Mitchell said.

"There has been discussions in coaching Currie Cup only between now and next Super 14.

"That's only been discussions, there's been no decision made.

"I'm entitled to annual leave, I've got quite a bit up my sleeve.

"I can still fulfill my duties here.

"In the last five years I do very little at this time of year except plan and reflect.

"So I think it's important I continue to coach, especially going into a longer competition next year.

"It allows me to learn off another country during that period. There's a lot of advantages."

The Force were plagued by injuries this year and finished a disappointing 13th with just four wins to their name.

Well from my Lion pals , this Mitchell one is a foregone conclusion and came from a long time. You can bet your house on it.

Oh yea another thread about how kak the Lions are.

Boo fucking woo.

TBH if I had my way I would have had the team resigned from Super Rugby in total, my opinion not much but
animated-finger.gif
to the new S15. But that's another story.

There is too much money involved here so I don't think you will see the Lions resigning to quickly from Super Rugby. The new el~presidente, Kevin de Klerk, is busy sorting the shit out at the Union. I'm just waiting on the confirmation that Manie, CEO, will get the boot up the arse.

The rumours about JM is true, but will keep my trap shut about that.

So far Waylon Murray has signed with Lions and there are other players in talk with the Union.

Will the Union get any better? Only time will tell. Baywatch is out injured and will miss the whole of the CC season. So this will leave my most favourite player in charge, Wikus van Heerden.

As for the management, Kevin is only in the position as president for the last 6 odd month's. But choices that are made are mind boggling to say the least.

Hopefully the youngsters at the Union will make it through, Biscuit van Heerden, Jaco Taute, Roun Boshoff, etc. I see the Guppies is all ready hunting for the latter two.

Moving the Coke Tin?? There are talks about it, but then the Union is also in final stage talks wil SAIL where by SAIL will manage the Coke Tin and the Union can concentrate on the real stuff. Also former players are also in talks with the Union about the state of affairs, Francios Pienaar, Kobus Wiese, Ray Mordt, etc. Will see what happens from it.

It will be a sad day when the Union does close it doors, but I doubt it will happen soon.
