Alcock has been called into the squad as injury cover. Supposedly it is very likely he will play. I'm not sure who he is cover for but so far this year they have seen him purely as a specialist 7.

hows this, from twitter:

Congrats to Kurtley Beale... tonight he becomes the youngest player to reach 50 NSW Caps in the 128-year history of the Waratahs.

A sign of the times for sure, but also an awesome achievement. He just turned 21 in Jan.

Quade is not far behind with 48 caps (49th tomorrow night), one extra final I guess although he turned 22 this year.

Now Palmer & Baxter both went off with injuries -

Worst case scenario both are out that would leave us with :

Ofa Fainga'anaku & Paddy Ryan as our next best bets.

Wow

A long way from Baxter,Kepu, Robinson, Dunning, Palmer, Tilse of last season.

Nice.

Comprehensive victory there for the Tahs.

The forwards stood up and the outside backs carved up.

The scrum just about held together until all abr one of the props was injured - hopefully not all the injuries aren't too serious (who have they got left to play prop?). The rucking, mauling and pick and drive were strong, but more importantly they were fast and accurate.

Until about the 60th Barnes was keeping the ball in hand (with kicks being attacking or 'last resort') and causing all sorts of problems for the Hurricanes. Apart from some early crabbing from Chariots the running at (through) the line was very successful and kept the Canes on the back foot.

The only worry is that when the Tahs decided to play a defensive/territorial game Barnes' kicking was inaccurate or aimless (which meant the Canes had a load of good possession). I have no problem with shutting up shop, but at least execute it, otherwise just stick to the running game that worked so well.

Come on the Baby Bulls!

Thanks AussieDominance - answered my question before I asked it! How do you rate the latest propping options?

oh, and Mitchell, Beale and Turner are all on fire at the right time. All of them pose serious threats to the opposition. Special mention to Barnes, Carter and Horne for the way they dealt with the Hurricanes mid field (although much of the job was done by the forwards denying them ball, space and time).

Excellent win to he Tahs. Very relieved right now that an Australian team made the semis.

An Australian back 3 that's creating opportunities, not just playing by numbers. Very good to see.

A great qtr final game and a strong performance across the park by the tahs. The game had everything from the fans POV, except maybe for a stink. I thought one or two of our tries were a bit arsey, but the canes scrambling defence was also impressive and prevented what might have been a real blow out given the breaks we made in the first 60 mins. There were passages of play that made me think we at a game of 7s, but the support runners just kept coming and we swamped the Canes in both attack and defence.

The forwards were very good and for once, TPN didn't stand out which is terrific. Waugh has reconditioned himself during the offseason and seems to have improved as the weatehr has cooled. He wont displace pocock, but deand wont be stressing about Smiths move OS.

Special credit to Tilse for a huge performance against an All Black front row. We probably got marginally shaded in the scrums but it was near enough to parity given the circumstances. I do think tonights game has confirmed that we have seen the last of LE Fuse at Intl level.

On ground MOM was Schmoo, but Horne was terrific in my book and gets my 3 points

If the 'tahs play like that in the white jersey with the flowers all over it can they wear that jersey every week. They finally played lke a team that could win the whole shebang. Now all they have to do is repeat it and lift another gear or three to do it in Sth Africa.

Bring it on, I hear them say.

Anyway, fantastic performance from the Tahs. Hold on to your seats. The finals are going to be awesome for intensity whichever way they go.

Its taken all my willpower to hold back until now - I've waited 15 weeks to talk the Tahs up !

And can we all stop pretending to be excited that Queensland are no longer the 13th worst team in the Super 14 ?

Superprop

Actually, the superprop was fantastic - the scrum was rock solid. Full credit.

I have watched Jeremy Tilse play footy since 2003. He has always been an honest contributer who doesn't shirk the tough stuff and gives it his best. When he has been pilloried he keeps turning up. When he can't even get a run in Uni 1st grade he keeps turning up and playing the house down in 2nds. When the tahs start to regret that they have signed him, he keeps turning up and training the house down. When he gets a serious injury that ruins a season, he keeps working hard and training the house down. Tonight was your night Tilsey, well done. If he has to start in a semi or even a final, he will not let the team down. He has done his apprenticeship and is made of the right stuff.

Getting excited at the prospect of having Beale, Cooper and (hopefully firing) Giteau on the park at the same time. Add some balls in the OC position in the form of AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) or Ioane and we're looking good. Those three, plus Barnes, must make up the 5/8, IC, FB and bench playmaker positions.

Visiting Sydney so got to see the game live, albeit not so good seats. Can't wait to see the game on replay, missed so much but no replay till Tuesday morning. Tennis and golf have priority apparently.

What was apparent was that the difference between the teams was the Tahs outside backs. Up against an international class backline Kurtley and Horne had a golden night and Schmoo and Lackie were almost as good. Canes forwards went better than I expected but still look to have been shaded up till the 60 minute mark. I thought we reverted to playing safe after that and as usual it did not turn out well.

We got caned by the ref (pun intended) and I think the non-neutral refs has been a big failure. I felt that the penalty was going to the second or third infringement in the ruck very often and Waugh's pilfer just before half time looked legit on the big screen replay.

Overall it was a very good performance and a great night to be a Tah fan. Sad to see so little blue around the ground, the team deserved better. Sydneysiders are a detatched lot really, the mob in front of me were more interested in the beer and gossip.
