I was advocating Hiddleston for 1sts (at FB) last year when he was languishing in 3rds and 4ths. Maybe not in favour with the Kellys? A very friendly young guy who takes his goal kicking very seriously. Scotland's loss is the Wick's gain! The Wicks scrum has been steadily improving with the...

With the score at 13-0 at HT Uni were not in the game and it was a question of how many they would be beaten by. However they came back strong in the 2nd half and I'm still shaking my head trying to understand how the Wicks survived. Uni's normally faultless set plays and strength at the...

Adam Freier warmed up with the 2nds (in running shoes) but didn't play any grade today. Was this a bluff or a wind up?

But some useful players in 2nds (ie Benn Melrose, Stuart Dunbar and Angus Roberts) so presumerably the no name players picked in 1sts are playing better rugby than them.

And I don't blame them. This Saturday we've also got colts 3s at Coogee -- 5 games. Why on earth don't we have all 4 grades + colts 1s at Coogee

Thanks for the corrections HJ -- the errors re 2013 and 2014 are mine, but the extra "n" seems to have been an ongoing problem on the Wicks and other websites!

Henry Hutchinson is from Riverview (2013) and I believe he played in the Wicks premiership winning colts 1 team last year. He was in the u20s preliminary world cup squad this year but had to withdraw due to injury. He's played a couple of lower grade games this year but I think this is his first...

    Shute Shield 2015

Interesting! He played about 20 minutes in 2nds against Gordon and looks a lot fitter than in his 4th grade appearances last year. I note that the regular hooker David Vea is named as a fresh reserve.

Looks like 3rd and 4th grade have been banished to Latham again this Saturday. I really enjoy watching colts 1, but 3rd grade at least should be on the "big stage" at Coogee IMO. As a result, colts 3 kick off at 9:10am at Latham -- hope the boys don't stay up too late studying on Friday night ;)

    Shute Shield BBQs and Canteens

I was buying it for a mate to mix with his OP Rum. I stuck to the very medicinal Sayle Ale.

But oh so important! My only criticism of last Saturday was no diet Coke or Pepsi available. With the comment: "surely you don't expect to get anything healthy at a rugby game".

Great game from Roods -- may have actually been his first full game at the Wicks.

    Shute Shield 2015

Eastwood v Norths score is a big surprise and things getting worse by the week for the Emus. I'm thinking they must be struggling to keep players after these score blow outs. At least their colts 2 had a win.

Wicks currently have 7 players involved in the U20s World Cup. In the Australian team Andrew Kellaway (who was playing 1st grade), Andrew Deegan (1st and 2nd grade), Ned Hanigan (grade and colts), Olly Kamp (grade and colts), Sam Croke (1st and 2nd grade), Lukhan Lealaiauloco-Tui (grade and...

At 7:30pm I predict Wicks will win 1sts and 2nds and Gordon 3rds ;) Both 3rds teams were undefeated so a great effort by Gordon. Three great games with the results in the balance down to the last 10 minutes of each game. Not a single kick for penalty goal in any of the 3 games. Both teams...

    Shute Shield 2015

I cringe every time I see a league scrum with backs like Billy Slater packing down and nobody even pretending to push. Why do they bother with scrums at all? (Sorry, off topic )

Interesting changes in the Wicks backline this week: Coupland from FB to wing (Taripo to 2nds) Latinipalu from centre to wing (Ford fresh reserve) Norton from 10 to FB (to make way for Horwitz's return) Brogan Roods back from injury in the centre The backline looked pretty ordinary against...
