    Shute Shield on ABC TV

Not sure that makes any difference. I believe the ABC would have dumped the SS no matter who was in government. Scott was just waiting for the chance to blame someone else. It obviously doesn't fit with his digital agenda.

    Well said Dave :)

    Shute Shield 2015

Good point FP -- this is why I suggested the ABC is just as much to blame for this decision as the ex Sydney Uni front rower who now packs down in The Lodge.

    Shute Shield 2015

IMO, the reasons support for the SS has declined: no rep players on show anymore competition from S15 -- on TV and at the ground no promotion or advertising (except by the ABC) lack of action to spread the playing strength to provide a more even competition full home and away rounds no longer in...

    Shute Shield 2015

Whether or not you're happy with the cuts to the ABC's budget, remember it was the ABC who decided how to apply the cuts so they must share the blame. The ARU and NSWRU also must share the blame as their decision making (or the lack thereof) over a long period of time has resulted in the SS...

    Shute Shield 2015

I apologise in advance as I know this is off topic, but I wanted to post it somewhere. Last night I sat down to watch a program about the Ella brothers on NITV without realising that their sister Marcia Ella-Duncan was also going to be on the programme. I was so impressed by this extremely...

Forgive my ignorance, but are / were the club comps in Brisbane and Canberra on FTA TV as well?

    Shute Shield 2015

Hugh and Antony -- very interesting and good points made! As I've said before, the overwhelming majority of guys running around on the weekend have no aspirations to play at a higher level. They just want to play rugby with their mates and have a few beers after the game. The ARU and NSWRU...

    Shute Shield 2015

My worry is that the geniuses at NSWRU and ARU (all of whom are only temporary guardians of the game ie for as long as they remain in their current roles) don't believe that competitions like the SS are necessary for the survival of the game.

    Shute Shield 2015

As I've suggested before, I believe the only reason Foxtel paid for the NRC was to try to discourage Pulver from pursueing his stated aim of getting S15 live on free-to-air. Mission accomplished.

Shute Shield, subbies, S15, 7s, Wallabies, NRC. Sounds like too many products not enough marketing budget to me.

    Shute Shield 2015

The good news is the SS will survive as it is, and always has been, about guys wanting to play rugby on a Saturday afternoon. In spite of the efforts of the ARU club rugby will continue even if nobody other than the mums, dads, wife and girlfriends of the players (and their dogs) plus a few...

    Shute Shield 2015

Note to Mr Pulver -- the ARU now has NO live rugby on Australian free-to-air TV apart from tests. I thought you said this was vital for the success of the code? Your frequently stated aim of getting S15 on free-to-air has now also fizzled into a replay of one game on channel 10 on Sunday morning...

    Shute Shield 2015

Confirmation from NSWRU -- some hope from the last sentence, maybe: In response to your email; I have today received advice from the Head of Sports and Events ABC Television Mr Justin Holdforth; “The ABC TV will no longer provide coverage of the Sydney Rugby Union’s Shute...

    Shute Shield 2015

Quote from the announcement that TEN will replay one S15 game on Sunday mornings from 2016: "Ratings for Super Rugby declined by about 10 per cent for Fox Sports this year, despite the NSW Waratahs winning the competition, and the network is said to be concerned about ratings for the National...

    Shute Shield 2015

Do you know something that wasn't in Mark Scott announcement? He said ABC TV would: "Rationalise our television outside broadcast vans and scale back our sports involvement. The ABC is the only broadcaster maintaining its own outside broadcast fleet. With the ABC facing declining audience...

Sydney Grade cricket will be at the qualifying finals stage on 21/3, so only 3 1st grade games on that weekend. Semis the next weekend (2 games) and final 4-6 April. I think only Randwick, Norths, Gordon, Manly and Uni share grounds with cricket these days so may not be too much of an issue...
