    Shute Shield 2016

Just noticed that Adam Freier at 36 years old and only playing about 20 minutes per game for the last couple of years, mainly in 3rd and 4th grade, still attracts 10 player points. Doesn't matter much as Wicks are well under the allowance, but seems a bit harsh.

    Shute Shield 2016

I've written several posts in the past supporting Tom so I wasn't taking a potshot -- just calling it as I saw it. There are better centres in Uni's 2nd and 3rd grade with more to offer IMO. Maybe legends should retire gracefully before they embarass themselves.

    Shute Shield 2016

Early days, but after 3 rounds it's the usual suspects in the top 5 and the bottom 4 look like they are going to struggle again this year. Norths, Rats and Easts are all TBA at this stage. I still think (as I did before the season started) that the SS winner will come from Woods, Manly, or...

Haven't played the Wicks yet, John. That's next weekend.

    Shute Shield 2016

Sure, but the Emus first step was in 1995 -- 21 years ago. There have been a few forward steps over the years, but the club's on field performances have been mainly going backwards for the last 5-6 years.

Fair enough QH. But having watched the players available to Uni in 2nds (and 3rds!) and having seen Tom play in the first round and again today I'm not sure he has enough to offer to justify his place in 1st grade.

Gutsy win by the Wicks today. The forwards stood up to be counted again and worked tirelessly in the heat. They more than held their own at scrumtime (3 tightheads?) and won the battle of the breakdowns. Hanigan can't be far off Waratah selection. Another great game by Deegan who grows in...

    Shute Shield 2016

Saw all sides of BTC today. The good: at the ground to cheer on 4th grade as they ran onto the field The bad: frequent cheap shots at opposition players whenever they made a mistake, trying to taunt them into retaliating The ugly: a blatent late head high tackle on Deegan well after he kicked...

    Shute Shield 2016

Well done Sydney Uni in putting all grades and colts for both teams on their website. https://www.sydneyunirugby.com.au/team-list.html

    Shute Shield 2016

He's on the Tah's website as part of the squad which I thought represented the contracted players.

Especially looking at this week's 1st grade team

    Sydney Colts - 2016

Wicks have named 5 in Colts1 (player points???): Hayson, Molloy, Latinipulu, Pirrodi, Tarogi Harrison Goddard is on the bench for 2nd grade Fifita and Chapman not selected

It'll certainly be interesting watching him play 1 and 3 at the same time.

    Shute Shield 2016

And Uni are so confident of winning they've only picked 14 players, 3 of whom are all named TBC ;)

    Shute Shield 2016

Showing your age mate (and mine!) -- it was 1975 at TGMilner and the jumper with the ball up it was Greg Cornelson's. The country team in those days included John Hipwell, Geoff Shaw, John Hindmarsh, John Lambie, Peter Horton, and others as well as Cornelson (who scored 4 tries against the ABs...

Boyo, is Sydney University Football Ground the official name of the new ground?

    Shute Shield 2016

According to Google, the Sydney Rugby Union doesn't exist (I've often wondered whether it actually existed or was just a mythical organisation that the NSWRU invented to blame for it's own inactivity regarding club rugby, rugby news demise, lack of publicity for the SS, etc, etc). The nearest...

Thanks MACCA, didn't know he was related to Jorgensen. Jorgo had an interesting career. He came to Randwick from school in 1991 and played 62 games for the Wicks before switching to league after the 1994 reserve grade GF in which he scored 3 tries. He also represented NSW and played 2 tests...
