    Sydney Colts - 2016

Maybe we need both, but I've liked the idea of separate total Grade and Colts registration caps for some time with maybe even a negative offset for players who have come through the junior clubs in the area.

At the very least, hopefully the 7 team will interview Jeremy Paul and he can explain to everyone why on earth he's taken on the hardest coaching job in the SS.

As I understand it, the points cap this year is cumulative ie all players who take the field are added into the total. So if the starting lineup is "x" points then a sub with "y" points results in a total of "x+y" points even if the sub has fewer points than the player he replaces. I can...

Yeah, don't disagree with you Done That. I'm all in favour of every team getting some TV exposure and would like to see 7 have a plan to show every team at least once over the first few weeks of the season, but then probably pick the best game each week. Not sure what the policy is, but it...

No game next weekend, horse racing instead. West Harbour v Emus is on 23/4. A pity they chose this week to give some exposure to other teams instead of either Wicks v Manly or Eastwood v Southern.

A balmy day at the foot of the mountains with a light zephyr drifting the aromas of the Emu Burgers from the BBQ into the grand(?)stand. I couldn't help musing at the optimistic Penrith slogan emblazoned on the back of the sideline dugouts: "A Rising Rugby Power" -- if only it were true. 4th...

He did hook for the ball but only after the ball was stuck in the tunnel of a stationary scrum and with the Uni hooker unable to lift his leg.

    Sydney First Grade teams

Inside Shoulder, I agree with most of your points -- there must be a better way than the current system which has achieved little. The advent of the NRC has effectively made the player points system redundant for grade anyway. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any will to do anything about...

    Sydney First Grade teams

Surely the wonderful Player Points system has addressed this ;) Actually Randwick 1st grade team at the moment only has 1 player who has played grade for another SS club. The problem these days has shifted from grade to colts where players are being targetted immediately they leave school, if...

The comments above about men playing boys are very valid IMO. Not sure of the wisdom of the Wicks naming Harrison Goddard on the bench for 1st grade against Penrith. How old is he, 17? He looks to be about 50kg wringing wet.

How impressive was Kuki Ma'afu when he came off the bench in 3rds last week. I see he's selected in 2nds this week and will be pressuring for 1st grade selection shortly. I assume he's had a long term injury as I don't think he played at all last year, or was he o/s. Anyone know?

They'll have to play a couple of them in the second row like they did with Tilse last year. Could be the reason for all the TBCs in this week's team.

    Shute Shield 2016

Belly, I thought I read that all reserves were to have their points counted whether fresh or not which is why I was confused when some team's total points seem to include all players and some not. Maybe the "Y" is being used to show that the player actually took the field as opposed to just...

Interestingly Latu is back in colts after several games in grade.

    Shute Shield 2016

What's happening with the player points system? Most teams have players with "blanks" in the PP column and Southern and Penrith have no PPs recorded for any of the first 3 rounds for both grade and colts. Aren't the PPs supposed to be submitted to the SRU by the clubs before the season starts...

Will be interesting to see how many Tahs are released to their clubs this weekend and, in the case of the Wicks, whether they're selected :)

    S.U.F.C. 2016

It was Nick Kellaway who scored the first try for Randwick. Andrew was called up to the Waratahs and didn't play on Saturday. Nick is Andrew's twin brother which might have explained the confusion except Nick has brown hair not red, is several inches taller, plays in the forwards and doesn't...

    Sydney Colts - 2016

According to the ground announcer at Sydney Uni on Saturday, Uni Colts1 lead 36-0 before Wicks came home with a late rush. Anyone have any details on the game?

    Shute Shield 2016

I was happy to applaud him for continuing to play for Uni after finishing his Super rugby career, rare thes days for players to do this, but not at the expense of other players who are playing better than he is. On Saturday (and I watched the game live as well as the TV replay) his main...

No, he received 10 points for coming on in 1st grade as a fresh reserve.
